Fire in Gakkhar Plaza Rawalpindi
By Sumaira Bajwa • Dec 20th, 2008 • Category: Misc • 17 CommentsThe city of Rawalpindi has been in the grip of terrorist attacks like bomb blasts, suicide attacks and the target killings for a long period now, but the vitality and the ability to go on with the life of Rawalpindiites hasn’t dampened. Though there are very few options available for the citizens of Rawalpindi to enjoy their lives and to shop well.
One of the oldest and one of the reasonably priced shopping malls in Rawalpindi is the Gakhar Plaza Rawalpindi, which is situated in the busiest place of Saddar. The garrison town of Rawalpindi prefers this plaza over others for their shopping because of the large and variety of goods and the reasonable prices. Its a unique blend of cheap prices and good quality.
But unluckily and very unfortunately this Plaza has been destroyed by fire and has now become ashes. More than five people are dead and many injured while the business has been destroyed. Investigations should be carried out about the origins of fire and the inability of fire brigade to control the fire in time.

ghakhar plaza is the most renounable shpping mall of rwp.where all sorts of garments sheos branded non branded are available..now its is very sad news that ghakar plaza is nowturned into ashes coz of fire…
plz give more detail about the ghakhar plaza. how fire burned out and how it happened?
This is the first sad news of this morning. Since last few months, I am thinking about the “Good Morning” and this word “Morning” reminds me another word”Mourning”. for us Pakistanis every single day is “Good Mourning”. The financial crisis of Pakistan, The Government of Pakistan, The Poor People of Pakistan, The World with Pakistan, We, The People of Pakistan with Pakistan….reminds us Mourning. Do we have another choice except Mourning?????
Today my brother have lost everything in Gakhar Plaza Fire. Everyday one of my brothers and sisters losing something… and i am afraid of losing HOPE…
I know my words are meaningless coz I love Pakistan & every person lives in Pakistan.

I am British born and live in the Ik but have both family and friends in Pakistan. I have visited this Plaza many times in the past and it was a fantastic institution and summarised what makes Rawal Pindi and the people of Pakistan so great, funny and free spirited!
This attack is on every Pakistani and we have the deepest sympathies and best wishes for the people and there families that were both injured and killed. Our prayers are with you. I hope inshallah, the owners of the Ghakar Plaza will build a even bigger and better Plaza there with rebuilding commencing ASAP. The name Ghakar Plaza is an institution and long may it prosper!

I live in Rawalpindi but i born in Saudi Arabia i spent many time in Rawalpindi during my studies in PCIT. My condolences for every brother and sister.. I feel so sad inside my heart but feeling more brave for those who did this… i wish Allah will bless Whole Pakistan.
My tearful eyes and broken-heart and shaken fingers are clicking for more details, what could I say for a young lad from Wah Cantt who become a victim of negligence and mismanaged act of a fire brigade officer according to his family? Who will become his family supporter now? AHH! Other similar incident happened in Hasanabdal that even went unreported, May Allah SWT, save our Pakistan and its people, please I appeal every Pakistani living abroad to help our brothers and sisters back home, also my sympathies with every shopkeepers, staffers and all those suffers, also to RAJA SHAHID ZAFAR.

Who is this Person????? Can anyone believe that he would build another plaza for the victims of Gakhar Plaza Shop keepers?????? You are all wrong my friends. He sold every brick of that Plaza, He shifted the mosque of this plaza two times just for his greediness. He sold the corridoors, stairs even wash rooms of this plaza. Only the shopkeepers are aware of his filthy mind. this is the time for him to build another Gakhar Plaza to make money… he is just a………. If you don’t believe me then , just GO and Ask the shopkeepers of Gakhar Plaza. And my dear fellow citizen, this is the country where a family can only get 50,000 RS. for Injusry & 100,000 for Death in any Bomb Explosion. an injured man who could lost his legs, arms or both and a family with 50,000 only!!!!!!!! Its a long endless topic. we can just pray or do something….like Iran
@ Hamid i had a shop in gakhar plaza, it is a big tradegy for every one affected but none of the shops in Gakhar Plaza was sold, they were all on very low rent (it’s called the pagri system) and raja shahid zafar is a very honest n clean man and has nothing to do with this mishap, so much so that he wants to settle all the shop keepers first in the new plaza for no cost and you can ask that to anyone in Rawalpindi..but @ all we need your prayers ..regards

If not then what charitable, visible acts, like building hospitals and schools, have you performed from the massive earnings?
you do know about the Hospital that is behind the land of Gakhar Plaza??
That land was gifted to the hospital by Raja Shahid Zafar you do know the meaning of “Gifted”??
That land is about 4 times bigger than the land of Gakhar Plaza…can you estimate the price of that land now??
I know its too late to comment but I coul’nt stop myself after what hamid said….I know Raja Shahid Zafar and his family, b’cuase my late father Altaf Parwaaz was a freind of Late Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, this family is known to each and every person who is living in Rawalpindi, Shahid Bhai is a politician…but he never tried to get any benifit for this…otherwise he would have been the Chief Minister of Punjab, like other politicians of Rwp did. I dont know why….but what else mr.hamid had barked…..is baseless and he had been paid to bark that *hit. My all sympathies are with Shahid Bhai…….I pray that All Mighty Allah help him to do more for victims of Ghakkhar Plaza….we are looking forward for the re-opening ceremony of GHAKKHARH (RAJA ZAFAR-UL-HAQ) PLAZA….INSHAALLAH!!
our business is setteled in ghakar in 1990 we have 2 shops in ghakar plaza now the plaza union give us only 1 shop my father is the owner of both shop one shop will allot to my uncle by the ghakar union question is that in which base the union give our property to my uncle i will try to get my half shop which is aloted to my uncle but i m failed bcz my uncle has to much help of the union of ghakar plaza but it is a wrong allotment and i try to get my shop till end of my life bcz my teacher seek me
