Events, Dumb Boy, Events
By Rohail Butt • Dec 16th, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 6 CommentsGood news for all of us: for at least till the time of submitting this post to be scheduled by Ghazala at TPS, the rest of the world was still not following India’s threat for surgical attacks in Pakistan. As a once-proud Pakistani who hopes to be proud again, eventually, I don’t want India to attack Pakistan, but more important I don’t want that when such a critical time comes we won’t be led by dumb feudal like Mr. Gilani and Mr. Zardari.
“Events, Dear Boy, Events” is a quotation attributed to former British Prime Minister Harold McMillan, referring to the thwarting of his best intentions by events happening outside of his direct control. At this defining moment in the history of our country, we need statesmen. what is the greatest challenges that a statesman faces? Yes, as McMillan the old goat said, Event Management.
Given the volatile situation of the region, hegemonic designs by India, strategic niche finding zeal of America, China’s rising might, Iran’s ambivalent politics and Pakistan’s uncertainty and confusion about the vision and future; there is every liklihood that there are many such shocking surprising events about to be unfold in the near and future, and we mightily need some statesman, and this setup of goons in Islamabad is not up to the mark to tackle with those events.
These rulers don’t even fathom the scale and scope of searing challenges which are gaping from the horizon at the country. International players are re-organizing themselves and amidst the global economic meltdown, the old and tested military option is being utilized by the veteran warriors of West to secure themselves in crunch times.
Where we stand? We are badly in need of a true leader, a true statesman. A statesman who could steer the country through these challenges. Challenges will come and they will come more tougher than before. And none will be more global in its scope, more urgent in its stakes and timing, or more desperately in need of a complete policy overhaul than global desire for hot pursuit in Pakistan.
Time is short, very short. But it’s never too late.

Rohail Butt,
Could understand what you are trying to convey in this post?
In 1965, your country was led by General Ayub Khan , an upright Ramboist pathan while our country was led by dhothi kurtha wallh shri shashthriji and then russians bailed out through Tashkent and we have to give back hajiPir pass.
In 1971 your country was led by redoubtable General YahYaha Khan and had company like General tikka khan while we werre led by a woman Indira Ghandhi, ofcourse you lost your Eastern portion and we have to settle for Shimla Accord( a worthless paper) cleverly manuevred by a politician Bhutto and his dughter at Shimla and we gave back 1,00,000 of your prisoners.
In 1980 your country was led by General Zia-ul-Haq who engineered the sikh problem and we got siachen in return as we were led by Indira gandhi again.
in 2000 you were led by Nawaz Sheriff who was backstabbed by Genral Musharaff at kargil while we were led by dhothi kurthawallh Shri Vajpayeeji.General Musharaff used this to gain power and also betray Taliban along with Saudi arabia.
Today you are led by Zardari a very clever man and a politician and he has preserved his state being attacked by us being led by a leader Shri Manmohan singh.
