Even China Backed Ban on Jamaat ud Dawa : Diplomacy Failure

By Gul Raiz • Dec 13th, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 23 Comments

In the wake of UN Security Council resolution, which added four leaders of a militant group to a list of people and groups facing sanctions for ties with al-Qaeda or the Taliban, even Pakistan’s time tested friend China hasn’t vetoed the resolution. The resolution also recommended freezing the assets of the group and banning the certain individuals from travelling abroad.

Though, three times in the past, China has vetoed the same sort of resolutions by the security council. The Pakistan government had been resisting the US pressure in the past to ban the JuD as a terrorist†outfit on the grounds that it was a charity-cum-humanitarian relief organisation, having nothing to do with the Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The Al-Qaeda and Taliban Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council approved the ban after the immense pressure from India as aftermath of Mumbai attacks. But as India still fails to provide any conclusive evidence, it’s the sheer failure of the Pakistani government that they didn’t pursue the matter in the United Nations, and its complete lobbying and diplomatic failure on the part of Pakistani mission.

In the past, due to the intense, agile and matter of the fact lobbying and diplomacy of Musharraf regime, China blocked the move, while seeking credible evidence from the United Nations indicating JuD’s terror links. Now nobody asked from Pakistan. The security council didn’t even bother to tell Pakistani mission, and even China didn’t apprise Pakistan about it. How could they? The US once again HAS emphasised to Pakistan the need for continued focus in the war against terrorism to promote international and regional peace and stability.

It’s not to say that China has left Pakistan, rather it’s all about our priorities. Now the crackdown and operation against Jamat ud Dawa in Pakistan is a welcome step and it would also make our friends like China feel good about it, and it could be that China would have provided this opportunity to Pakistan to clear its turf from the militancy.

Above all, Pakistan needs a leadership.

  1. Pakistani rep in UN, Hussain Haroon was too busy in giving Bilawal Bhutto protocol. As he is a political appointee so his loyalties are more with the party chairman than the country he actually is supposed to serve.

  2. Gul Raiz, unfortunately, I failed to get the message in your post. What is it, is it a good thing or bad that this J-u-D is declared a terrorist outfit and their funds etc. frozen? Has China by not blocking the resolution, in your opinion, let us down? Or is it good that what you have termed, “our friends like China feel good” ? Could you, kindly, make me understand, I am a bit confused here. You describe the UN ‘resolution’ our failing and then say it to be , at the same time, a good step.

#1 (Pervaiz Huda) without going into a debate about our ambassador Haroon’s activities as our rep. in the UN. Do you think that fighting for J-u-D’s survival is in the best interest of Pakistan and the ambassador will be serving a national cause there and thus prove his loyalty to the country? I guess I am missing the logic here. Can you help?

  3. @ Pervaiz: Yes, Hussain Haroon is another beneficiary and he has to earn his salt.

@ Aftab: In this whole issue, my point is vivid in the following post:
    http://www.pakspectator.com/pakistans-ban-on-jamaat-ud-dawa-a-timely-step/

About China, I mean that this friend of ours is trying to tell us the hard way the right path. I mourn that we let our friends go against us to teach us what is right. Got my point? We should have get rid of the militants long ago by engaging our friends.

  4. Agree here with you, we should have got rid of all the millitants and terrorists long time ago and many of our friends have been asking you to do so. Some of them have been even targets of these elements including the Chinese, remeber the actions of the terrorists from that main breeding ground of the terrorists a.k.a. Lal Masjid and killings of some Chinese engineers helping us buiding our country. It is never too late and the state of Pakistan can handle this problem only if our own citizens will realize this threat and support out government.

  5. If a small sacrifice can save us from wrath of the world, it is not a big price… :)

  6. LET US SEE WHAT A WRITER OF FINACIAL TIMES SAYS:

    Radicals threaten India’s global ambitions
    By Jo Johnson

This is not the face that India likes to show the world. The faster it rises up the ranks of the world’s nations and the closer it comes to being a global power, the more India objects to being bogged down in a sub-regional conflict with Pakistan, its rival for the past six decades.

If there is one thing that the Indian elite fears could derail the country’s rise, it is that agents provocateurs acting on behalf of rivals could disrupt its delicate religious and ethnic balance.

Manmohan Singh, who as prime minister since May 2004 has presided over a spectacular transformation of India’s global standing, was quick to blame the country’s neighbours for the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

Whenever terror strikes, the Indian elite instinctively looks for scapegoats beyond its borders, almost always blaming the Pakistan-based militant groups that are opposed to the peace process between the two nuclear-armed rivals. They point out that big terrorist attacks often coincide with periods of rapprochement.

“Unless the national security adviser had told the prime minister – a circumspect man not given to rash statements – that there was evidence of foreign involvement, he wouldn’t have gone on television and said this, especially when he’s trying to work with [Pakistan president] Asif Ali Zardari,” says Sumit Ganguly, professor of political science at Indiana University. “The Pakistani president has made a series of extraordinary gestures that the Indian prime minister is extremely keen on reciprocating.”

But the speed with which India blames Pakistan, or groups operating under the direct or indirect control of Islamabad’s main intelligence agency, worries those who believe that terrorism on Indian soil also has indigenous roots.

Human rights groups have long pointed out the risk that India’s most marginalised and vulnerable communities could prove susceptible to radicalisation. The spread of revolutionary Naxalism, a violent Maoist movement, has shown the appeal of radical ideologies to India’s castes and tribes.

Academics believe that the roots of India’s terrorism problem can be found in a complex fusion of greed and grievance. While a Muslim-dominated underworld plays a part in facilitating and carrying out terror attacks, that is just part of the story.

In spite of four years of turbo-charged growth, there are still hundreds of millions living in abject poverty, with next to no stake in an otherwise newly wealthy and self-confident society. Of all the groups yet to benefit from spectacular growth, none, apart from so-called dalits (once known as “untouchables”) and tribals, have fared as poorly as Muslims.

Some, inevitably, succumb to the blandishments of recruiters from the country’s myriad insurgencies and extremist movements.

The Muslim community, although far from monolithic, forms the second largest religious group in the country and represents just under 14 per cent of the 1.1bn population.

Sociologists describe the relationship of India’s Muslims to the rest of Indian society as one of “upper class inclusion and mass exclusion”. While a small elite – typified by the Khans of Bollywood, the aristocratic Nawabs and businessmen such as Azim Premji, chairman of Wipro, a leading software group – thrives in the new India, a far larger number of Muslims, in many cases low-caste converts from Hinduism, often face marginalisation.

A government report into the community’s socio-economic condition found India’s Muslims constantly battling perceptions that they were “anti-national”, “unpatriotic” or “belonged in Pakistan” and either withdrawing or being pushed into ghettos.

Markers of their identity, such as the burka, the purdah, the beard and the topi, a Muslim cap, produced ridicule and harassment. Bearded men said they were routinely picked up for interrogation:, hijab-wearing women that they struggled to find jobs.

The integration of India’s Muslim population into the economic mainstream has strategic importance for the subcontinent and for the west. Unless this underlying susceptibility to terrorism is addressed, India’s path to superpowerdom could be bumpier than almost everyone predicts.

  7. Hi Gul Raiz,
Please read your header.’EVEN CHINA BACKED THE BAN ON JDU AND YOU CALL IT DIPLOMATIC FAILURE” then you say it has done it to teach pakistan a bitter lesson. Then it cannot be diplomatic failure. Now the CRUX OF THE PROBLEM WITH THINKING PAKISTANIES IS THIS.
1.I will train some guys in my country and who kill some in the world. As long i am not caught, you must not blame me especially if they kill Indians!!!
2.We Indians have our problems at home and it is well represented in Parliament. Those who believe in violence are another 200 of them with so many fancy names. We have Muslims who can teach Taliban a lesson or two in Fundamentalism. Our Prof Zakir naik can teach the Arabs , Arabic;Iranians ,persian and ofcourse all the Theory of Islam to any cleric in world and any bishop in world about Christianity and Vedas to our Hindus!!We have Jews living here without anti semetism for 2000 years, Iranians who worship sun god called Zorastrrians who trace their origin to Persia of Xerxes who have abandoned that religion in persia long ago!!Ofcourse our Tibetan brothers will practice Buddhism which will cease to exist in tibet!!We have Maoists who salute Mao abandoned long ago in China, will die for lenin abandoned long ago in Russia. We are a funny country.
We have this lawyer friend of mine who wants to fight for Kasab from Faridkot, abondoned by his host country(but wants consular access!!!) and our lawyers not taking up the case.

The Chief Justice and other Senior Judges

of the Bombay High Court, at Mumbai

Through the Registrar General, BHC and

Prothonotary and Senior Master, Original Side,

Bombay High Court at Mumbai 32.

    Dear Sir:

1.. We are shell-shocked no doubt due to the recent Terrorist Attack on Mumbai, in which the intelligence and security agencies have failed miserably. It will take time and great efforts to heal the wounds, recover the losses, remove the fear from the minds of the people of Mumbai, and rehabilitate those affected.

2.. We are, however, writing this Urgent Letter to you to protect Human Rights, uphold the Majesty of Law and save the Justice Delivery system and Democracy itself. Inspite of many hiccups, ours is the best democracy in the world (and I should know this having lectured in 63 countries) and inspite of everything we still keep faith in the judiciary to Right the Wrong in difficult times.

3.. Consequently, we are concerned at Adv. Dinesh Mota, Member of State Legal Aid Cell, being Lionised in the Print and Electronic Media eventhough his action amounts to gross contempt of court and absolute harakiri of the civilised norms and jurisprudence. Also, the resolution passed by the Bombay Metropolitan Magistrates Court Bar Association is not proper.

THE CAUSE FOR CONCERN ARISES FROM THE FACTS THAT:-

4.. The various resolutions and action of Advocate Dinesh Mota are unprofessional, unethical, illegal, and against the basic canons of jurisprudence.

5.. This also amounts to communalising the whole issue, since the suspected terrorist is a Muslim. This same Adv. Mota will perhaps not mind representing the Hindu terrorists arrested in the Malegaon blast case going by his puerile logic.

6.. In law, any accused is not guilty unless proved otherwise. We cannot presume anything before hand. If this is allowed to be done, then the whole edifice of justice delivery system, nay our democratic values and the sacrosanct fundamental rights will collapse. High decibel noise drummed up by some communal elements cannot be the basis of sane judicial decisions.

7.. If this is allowed, then the wayward young persons like Kasab will not get proper justice in accordance with Article 21 of the Constitution of India. Engineered Terrorism, which is a big business for the arms lobby, instead of abetting then will be on the rise. It is about time, therefore, that we prevented communalism entering judicial decisions and vitiating our secular societal fabric. Hence, this Court is the appropriate forum under article 226 of the Constitution of India.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE FOLLOWING IS REQUESTED PRO BONO PUBLICO:-

8.. That this letter petition be admitted suo motu to redress the grave wrong, swiftly.

9.. That the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa may be directed to take action against Adv. Dinesh Mota, like (a) he should be removed from the State Legal Aid Cell forthwith; (b) he should be debarred from praticing for atleast 6 months as punishment for gross indiscipline.

    10. That the resolutions passed by various associations of the lawyers be held illegal and Adv. Mota and the office bearers of the Associations, who throw law to the wind repeatedly, be hauled for Contempt of Court.

    11. That now that the lawyers like Mota and their associations have communalized the issue, even if they were forced to take up Kasab’s case, they may sabotage it.

    12. That, therefore, the undersigned who was Special Executive Magistrate for 18 years, who is the President of Litigants Welfare Forum, who has taken up PILS successfully, who has represented many u/s 32 of the Advocates Act may be allowed to represent the suspected terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, who is now in police custody and facing 12 cases.

    13. That Addl. CMM NN Shrimangle and Jt. CP Mumbai Police Rakesh Maria be directed to grant me the permission to meet Kasab, the 4th standard pass wayward boy, so that if he agrees, I can represent him. This will help us to understand in detail — how he did what he did and why he did if he did, in detail. Thereby, the unsolved questions, which the Police are not able to find out or do not wish to find out due to political interference, can also come out and help the nation.

    14. May it be noted that I am taking this action with clear conscience under article 51A — Fundamental Duties of a Citizen and whatever that I shall do shall be done in Nation’s Interest and to uphold the dignity of an individual and majesty of law and for my safety, the safety of my fellow citizens and the safety of India.

    15. For truth and justice, I remain, with very best wishes, yours truly,

  8. Dear Johann

It is heartning to see that your brothers the Jews the Zorastrrians the Buddhism the Maoists are happy but what about your muslim brothers, why treat them like step brothers?

why such hostile attitude towrads the muslims brothers?(no intention of slinging mud at india here)
you see this mistreatment of muslims is used by these terror organizations to brainwash young men who are then made to belive that india is opressing muslims so it is a valid reason wage jihad/war against india, (my friend once met a person who was brainwashed into killing muslims) if i am not mistaken then Ajmal Kasab also described one such event in his confession

and please send zakir naik to pakistan i have heard him he is really good, maybe he can talk some sense in to these fanatics

  9. Mr. Mohammad Ali Sajjad, lets be absolutely honest and frank and say, do we the muslims (at least the Pakistani muslims) really wish to identify ourselves as brothers of the Hindus, the Sikhs, the Zorastrians, the Budhists, the Christians and the Jews? Do we? Frankly, as I know our society we have hard time accepting even those among us as our brethern who have a little different rituals than us the main stream muslim Pakistanis (here I am referring to lets say the Ismailis, the Bohras, the Ahmadis etc.) The way we have been brought up (and indoctrinated, might add) is there really any room for mutual and peaceful co-existence with all these people? Have we not taken upon ourselves to correct (all these people and) the rest of the world according to what we believe to be the only right and correct.

I have raised these questions, hoping that you might be interested to do a bit of serious introspection based upon the belief which has been inculcated in yourself. It will certainly help if other learned Pakistanis would also ponder over them and enlighten us here.

  10. Dear Mohamed Ali Sajjid,
‘Muslims are NOT HAPPY IN INDIA. Do you know we are a bigger islamic nation than you. Or do you know in which country Muslims are happy as minorities?Thailand,Philipines,India,SriLanka(they do not call themselves Tamil Muslims, they call themselves Muslims , the only people in the world to call so!!!),Yugoslavia(broke that peaceful country)Australia and ofcourse France,USA.
You Muslims will demand Democracy and when you get it will blame the leaders, when Dictatorship is enforced, then you blame Army. In India we are supposed to throttle Muslims in Kashmir. Then why do these guys escape into pakistan. In gujerat some Muslims killed and burnt alive 50 Hindu pilgrims who in retaliation killed 2000 Muslims. NOT single Muslim soul escaped to Pakistan, the land of pure but escaped to Mumbai or calcutta!!!!I donot say we donot have problems as also Muslims but they know they are much better of than a life in Pakistan.

  11. Pakistani Muslims are in denial mode. Always has. Always will. They should look within their own borders to realise how the Pakistani Hindus there live. The Muslims in India are afforded a waaay better life than the Hindus in Pakistan.

Dr. Peter Hammond’s book - “Slavery, Terrorism and Islam: The Historical Roots and Contemporary Threat” must be read by every thinking Muslim.

An extract for you know-it-all types:

Islam is not a religion, nor is it a cult. In its fullest form, it is a complete, total, 100% system of life. Islam has religious, legal, political, economic, social, and military components. The religious component is a beard for all of the other components.

Islamization begins when there are sufficient Muslims in a country to agitate for their religious privileges.

When politically correct, tolerant, and culturally diverse societies agree to Muslim demands for their religious privileges, some of the other components tend to creep in as well.

    Here’s how it works.

As long as the Muslim population remains around or under 2% in any given country, they will be for the most part be regarded as a peace-loving minority, and not as a threat to other citizens. This is the case in:

    United States - Muslim 0.6%
    Australia - Muslim 1.5%
    Canada - Muslim 1.9%
    China - Muslim 1.8%
    Italy - Muslim 1.5%
    Norway - Muslim 1.8%

At 2% to 5%, they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups, often with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs. This is happening in:

    Denmark - Muslim 2%
    Germany - Muslim 3.7%
    United Kingdom - Muslim 2.7%
    Spain - Muslim 4%
    Thailand - Muslim 4.6%

From 5% on, they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. For example, they will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature halal on their shelves — along with threats for failure to comply. This is occurring in:

    France - Muslim 8%
    Philippines - Muslim 5%
    Sweden — Muslim 5%
    Switzerland — Muslim 4.3%
    The Netherlands — Muslim 5.5%
    Trinidad & Tobago — Muslim 5.8%

At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves (within their ghettos) under Sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islamists is to establish Sharia law over the entire world.

When Muslims approach 10% of the population, they tend to increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions. In Paris, we are already seeing car-burnings. Any non-Muslim action offends Islam, and results in uprisings and threats, such as in Amsterdam, with opposition to Mohammed cartoons and films about Islam. Such tensions are seen daily, particularly in Muslim sections, in:

    Guyana - Muslim 10%
    India - Muslim 13.4%
    Israel - Muslim 16%
    Kenya - Muslim 10%
    Russia - Muslim 15%

After reaching 20%, nations can expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings, and the burnings of Christian churches and Jewish synagogues, such as in:

    Ethiopia - Muslim 32.8%

At 40%, nations experience widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks, and ongoing militia warfare, such as in:

    Bosnia - Muslim 40%
    Chad - Muslim 53.1%
    Lebanon - Muslim 59.7%

From 60%, nations experience unfettered persecution of non-believers of all other religions (including non-conforming Muslims), sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon, and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels, such as in:

    Albania - Muslim 70%
    Malaysia - Muslim 60.4%
    Qatar - Muslim 77.5%
    Sudan - Muslim 70%

After 80%, expect daily intimidation and violent jihad, some State-run ethnic cleansing, and even some genocide, as these nations drive out the infidels, and move toward 100% Muslim, such as has been experienced and in some ways is on-going in:

    Bangladesh - Muslim 83%
    Egypt - Muslim 90%
    Gaza - Muslim 98.7%
    Indonesia - Muslim 86.1%
    Iran - Muslim 98%
    Iraq - Muslim 97%
    Jordan - Muslim 92%
    Morocco - Muslim 98.7%
    Pakistan - Muslim 97%
    Palestine - Muslim 99%
    Syria - Muslim 90%
    Tajikistan - Muslim 90%
    Turkey - Muslim 99.8%
United Arab Emirates - Muslim 96%

100% will usher in the peace of ‘Dar-es-Salaam’ — the Islamic House of Peace. Here there’s supposed to be peace, because everybody is a Muslim, the madrasses are the only schools, and the Koran is the only word, such as in:

    Afghanistan - Muslim 100%
    Saudi Arabia - Muslim 100%
    Somalia - Muslim 100%
    Yemen - Muslim 100%

Unfortunately, peace is never achieved, as in these 100% states the most radical Muslims intimidate and spew hatred, and satisfy their blood lust by killing less radical Muslims, for a variety of reasons.

‘Before I was nine I had learned the basic canon of Arab life. It was me against my brother; me and my brother against our father; my family against my cousins and the clan; the clan against the tribe; the tribe against the world, and all of us against the infidel. — Leon Uris, ‘The Haj’

It is important to understand that in some countries, with well under 100% Muslim populations, such as France, the minority Muslim populations live in ghettos, within which they are 100% Muslim, and within which they live by Sharia Law. The national police do not even enter these ghettos. There are no national courts, nor schools, nor non-Muslim religious facilities. In such situations, Muslims do not integrate into the community at large.

The children attend madrasses. They learn only the Koran. To even associate with an infidel is a crime punishable with death. Therefore, in some areas of certain nations, Muslim Imams and extremists exercise more power than the national average would indicate.

  12. Dear Johann

you mean to say that its justified to kill 2000 muslims for the death of 50 hindus?
and these 200 didnt even had hand in the death of thoes 50 hindus, is this justice?
if the hindus wanted to kill they should have killed the culprits , why innocent people?

if i am not mistaken these 50 hindus also provked the muslims first,
    am i right?

  13. Dear Johann

frankly speaking, this topic was brought up By Bismila Sheikh
Of all the people we pakistanis are no one to speak on the befalf of indian muslims, you might have some right as they (muslims) are your compatriots.

Only the indian muslims can deceide what standard of life do they prefer, and they cannot say anything untill they have actually lived in pakistan. So it is pointless to debate on the issue

last not least whenever a non israeli jew is killed the israelis react to it are they fanatics also ? what right do they have to react on the killing of non israeli jew? would you call it Interference?
any way it is because all the jews of the world have a bonding between them and that bonding is religion

in the same way when muslims are tortured , it pains us or atleast it pains me (i speak only for my self)

maybe you can tell better why kashmiries secape to pakistan and why not gujrati muslims?
maybe there is a sign in it
    i know what that is
    can you tell?

  14. Dear Aftab S. Alam

ref comment # 9 I am not quite getting the point

as far as inter religious tolerance is concerned it is a very distant dream for pakistan
you mentioned ahmedis etc I have seen shias killing shias for a few rupees i have seen sunni killing sunnis on losing a bet , thats nothing i have seen people scolding/slapping their OWN parents just like in the west , i am not blaming the west they did not come to us begging to adopt their way of treating their parents, it is our own fault

so the like water, tolerance is also very scarce in Pak

you are Absolutely right that it is the duty of muslims to spread “The Word” BUT NEVER, EVER BY FORCE,

quran say “Jahan tak naseehat kay nafay ho nay ki umeed ho naseehat kertay raho” translation/interpretion: keep on spreading the word (and STOP) when you feel it is not having a positive effect (on the person you are giving it to)

like i mentioned at the start if i have missed you point then please do elaborate

    Best Regards

  15. Dear All,

Terrorist are found in all the nations and the terrorist; they do not have any religion. Phenomenon of terror applied by them is just a tactic for their cowardice manoeuvres. It is applied by all the oppressors only to manipulate and subjugate the targeted people or nations.

We need to under stand Islam. Islam has no place for any kind of terrorism. The first and foremost will be that we should bear in mind that Islam has not come as rival of other religions. Rather Islam confirms and validates the previous divinely teachings [1] and offers higher degree guidance in accordance with universal divinely plans of God Almighty which has been destined for the future of the mankind. Islam being the bearers of higher divinely education may not be against the old or basic and primary educations held by older denominations; rather they must go hand in hand and are interdependent in bringing the improvement and enlightenment in the respective societies.

It has always been difficult for the humans to shed and shake the adopted myths and practices because humans by nature love and relish to remain restrained and bound by mysteries found in the older myths. And if these myths happen to be religious myths; it is more so difficult in leaving those self imposed mythical confinements. Myths are also influenced and rightly or wrongly, strongly guarded by the religious zealots, authorities and other groups having their vested interests.

The preset mind and preconceived ideas so created n floated, keep us at distance. It keeps us bound in the old ruts and restricts us to think without prejudice.

Let’s build the bridges; not the barriers and find the common grounds to march toward the divinely enlightenment and for the betterment of the people of this universe.

  16. Mr Muhammad Ali Sajjad and others,
This is a good healthy discussions where we must not just fall into patterns or draw undue inferences based on propaganda(both sides are guilty of that).

With reference to your “why such hostile attitude towrads the muslims brothers?(no intention of slinging mud at india here)”, I have some observations.

While of course in every country, especially one with India with huge population competing for limited resources including jobs, education opportunities, land etc; there are bound to be feelings of deprivation/injustice etc. But many of times it is due to sub continent’s fatalistic attitude we are not in control of most of our destiny- of not taking responsibility of your own fate and work your way up-like some times Afro Americans in US keep complaining and want to live on govt handouts.

Indian Govt is inf fact accused of being over appeasing to backward sections/minorities by most of its other population that also wanted the same opportunities/jobs. Witness the caste/minority status based reservations in govt jobs- that has so left many educated youth NOT wanting these govt job anymore where merit is not key consideration. Any feelings of deprivation are not specific to any religion. Its just an unfortunate statistic-possibly for historical/poverty reasons, many Muslim parents did not believe in imparting modern education to their kids or had too many to properly take care of them-so few sections of that society grew up without access to proper education/jobs so the poverty level is higher among them. But go to cities, you would have many many Muslim colleagues in any company.

I have had many fabulous Muslim friends growing up, and whoever have studied and competed, have all done very well. Ask most forward looking Indian Muslims -they will say they have got the best deal in the Muslim world. Ask them how many would like to go to Pakistan or Saudi-I am certain NONE would. I feel proud of them and they are proud of their country- of course they are pious Muslims, but know that THIS is their country. Don’t you see India has a larger Muslim population than even Pakistan!! If most of them were unhappy, they would have migrated. There are bound to be some radicals, but that has nothing to do with country’s policies- you would still find those unhappy with Govt in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Malaysia etc.

Here in India, they are part of an open society that even allows them to practice their own civic code. Isn’t this the same country whose ex President is a respected Muslim, where Muslims study along side their Hindu brothers at IITs/IIMs and many successful execs in India’s corporate world are Muslims? This is a country where they can open any business and worship anywhere. Can you tell me where in Saudi Arabia is a non-Muslim allowed to practice his faith in public or open a business without a local Arab partner?

I request you to not consider Indian Muslims as something apart from rest of population- of course some extremist Hindu elements will see some Muslims with suspicion, just as some hardliner Muslims will always feel unhappy. But vast majority of Indians have co-existed happily for decades. What they are now standing up for is constant interference to their peace- if there are internal problems, give countrymen a chance to solve them-do not need unwanted violent expressions of support from outside.

  17. Dear Pravar,

i know we pakistanis cannot claim that we have been treating minorities equally

like mentioned in comment # 13 it is the right of every person to decide what he wants

i know people who have struggled to migrate to USA UK Canada Australia New Zealand etc but when asked they always say apnay mulk ki baat hi aur hai (nothing compared to my own country)

I am sure every person feels this way, Indian or Pakistani,

about the reference you have made about my earlier remarks
let me clarify that I was only refering to the instances of mistreatment of muslims in india e.g gujrat 2002 and human rights voliation in kashmir,

the media (any media, any country) is NEVER UNBIASED, thats the way they work,
when these incidents are blown out of proportion the terror organizations get in their act and start brainwashing innocent people in to becoming a terrorist

and that where the problem starts for both Pakistan and India

last not least what starts in India should finish in India

if an uneducated peson is denied a job it is his fault , but when a person is killed just for being himself , that is very painfull,
in the same way when anyone esp. muslims are tortured , it pains us or atleast it pains me (i speak only for my self)

it is then sometimes people tend to speak up

    Best Regards
    :)

  18. The biggest threat to world is not taliban or afghanistan, the threat lies in Pakistan and PUNJAB is the biggest threat to world peace.

All the Bombay terrorists belongs to punjab and the people who made talibans finance and trained them all are punjabies.

Hafiz Saeed, Masood Azhar hameed Gul are all punjabies

  19. Dear Mr Sajjad
I had expected a vehement response on my post but was pleasantly surprised to see a saner tone. You see that is what happens when we get prejudiced-we think general population of two countries is also out to get each other. Whereas the fact is that everyone wants dignity, decent living conditions and to achieve something higher in life. And why should you say “…in the same way when anyone esp. muslims are tortured , it pains us or atleast it pains me..”? Every senseless death should pain you, not just a Muslim’s.

I feel like we had an opportunity to be friendly nations, but gave it away due to historical missteps.

No Indian worth his salt denies Gujarat massacre were shameful events- real humiliation to our basic core of society (that everyone has a shot at opportunity irrespective of religion). But it is unfair to keep referring to that and use that by hot headed people to instigate uneducated youth and indoctrinate them for an endless cycle of reaction/counter reaction(including the likes of Mr Teeth above espousing some puzzling hypothesis). Recall the Gujarat episode was ONE incident, may be a few more, but look at it in context of several hundred other undesirable incidents that take place and some of them linked to Jihadis.
And did Indian intelligentsia not rise up against Gujarat shame? Some posters on these blogs keep denying the origin of Mumbai attacks to Pakistan trained elements, and saying that Samjhauta blast was handiwork of extremist Hindu elements. But they forget that it is this country’s police and legal framework that exposed it and is working to hand out appropriate justice in court of law. Could such vigorous pursuit have been possible in a authoritarian/biased state?

This self reflection and willingness to tame extremist elements is unfortunately what we Indians are not seeing in Pakistan! And as Indians grow more frustrated, even home grown incidents/provocations come to focus the fury on past grievances with Pakistan(remember, with the Pak govt, NOT with Pak people-who people in India have so much in common with)

I feel when we all feel violence and intolerance is a common enemy, it will be a good start.

  20. Guys understand one thing, be it US or China or for that matter your so called Friends of Pakistan, they will always try to use the other for their own benefit.

As early as Pakistan can learn this it will be good for you.

Wake up and start think for development of your country rather than wasting time of these kinds of blogs and hate for other countries.
