Disconnect from Balochistan
By Dr. Hassan Isfahani • Dec 23rd, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 11 CommentsAfter the 37 years of dismemberment of Pakistan, which resulted into the formation of Bangladesh, one would have felt that the remaining Pakistan had learned some lesson, but when the current situation is analyzed, that feeling vaporizes as soon as it appears. Fire and Blood in FATA and Swat aside, the most dangerous and alarming thing for the integrity of Pakistan is the apathy and disconnect of rest of the Pakistan is offering to the Balochistan.
On 19th December, 2008, that is just now, a very successful strike was observed throughout Balochistan which marked the protest against the on going operation in the Balochistan and the missing Baloch people and this strike was called by the Baloch Republican Party, a party which is also involved in armed protests against the security forces.
On the protest day, a complete shutter down strike was observed throughout Balochistan including Quetta, Pashin, Sibbi, Gawadar, Hub, Qalat, Pir Koh, Dera Bugti, Jaffarabad, Nasirabad and other areas of Balochistan. Protesting rallies were also conducted and on one such rally, according to the BRP Secretary General Dr. Bashir Azeem, security forces baton charged and fired due to which some people were injured who were arrested afterwards, though the Major Shahid of Frontier Constabulary has said that nothing such as claimed by BRP has happened.
PPP government made many tall claims about giving Baloch people their due rights and they even offered apology for their previous operation of 70, but on the grounds they did nothing to ease the sufferings of the people of Balochistan and they are still very disconnect from the main Balochistan. Nothing is being done on the national level to create inter-province harmony and nothing is being done to bring the Baloch people into the national mainstream.
This sort of approach is increasing the popularity of the defected leaders like Balach Murree and Brahamdagh Bugti. The India is also finding Balochistan more fertile than ever to sow the seeds of secession of Balochistan from Pakistan. They are pouring money and weapons like hell into the Balochistan from the Afghan border. The reason why this insurgency has remained controlled and failed to flourish is because Baloch people really love Pakistan and they are loyal to the fatherland. But we in Sindh, Punjab and NWFP have to do some real brainstorming for their brother.

To protest is the fundamental right of any citizen in a free country like Pakistan and as you said they did conduct the rallies in almost all the cities and town of Baluchistan to mark their protest and put forward their demands.
No one denies that reasonable autonomy as per the constitution of Pakistan should not be awarded to the provinces and especially the province which is less developed like Baluchistan. If they think that what all they have got is less; then necessary bills can be moved in the National Parliament and got it passed to avail the needful.
Knowing it to be such; does any body’s so called deprivation gives him or her a right to any citizen of Pakistan to go and sit in the lap of your arch rival enemies like India?
What will you call a person or a group of people who abet your enemy and accept the monies and is loured in by enemy to carry out the subversive activities on their dictates against his own home land?
At least we should be able to differentiate between a Protester and a traitor.
Matter of the fact is that these Sardars in Baluchistan; I know it personally well, they do not want, even the roads be built in Baluchistan; especially in Murree, Bughti area.
Roads will bring the Buses and trucks in the area. It will bring the commodities. The poon- poon toys for kids; the eatables; Surkhee-Dandassa and Paranda(Items of Ladies make up kit) for the girls and ladies. But they may not allow this in the areas of their sardari jurisdiction. Do you know what are the punishment who defaults the sardars?
The only difference between the resident of inner Baluchistan under sardars and a Goat or cow is that Goat or cow has four legs and these men have two.
I was amazed when I saw the same people here in London who while sitting in Sibi official meeting use to deny any Military access and road building programmes in Murree- Bugti area?
People of all provinces of Pakistan should their fundamental rights to live free from any fears. The most unfortunate situation I think is due to lack of sincere leaders in Pakistan including Baluchistan. All of so called leaders are leaders of their own personal gains. They have never thought beyond their personal interests and will never due in future. These leaders talk about democracy and human rights and are not willing to give these rights to their own people. Only sincere leaders can resolve the issues which Pakistan is now facing. The most imprtant thing which we have forgotten is united we stand divided we fall.

In one of the blog on this site has mentioned something about the person from Baluchistan. The person’s name is Talal Bugti, as the text in the blog he has forwarded a few demands for people of Baluchistan out the total list half of the demands are for releasing his personal property, bank accounts, etc. If people like him are going to ignore their own people and not look after the interest of people at large how can you bring these guys up.
The leader has a duty to bring people up whom he represents, he has a duty to provide them with opportunities.
But in Pakistan the case is different. All the leaders at the top only look after them and later if they feel something then they concentrate on their region only not at the national level.
As long as you try to concentrate on regional politics only this kind of situation is going to happen.
Look at history and you will find the reason for separation of Bangladesh.
Khokar, you can only write hatred filled sentences against India, when it comes to write some sensible stuff on the matters that can give Pakistani people some new approach to thinking and wider and bigger picture all you can do is write shayari over there.
If you are going to only write statements which will only separated hatred and distrust among people against someone else it will spread among you as well.
Your ex-ISI chief in one interview had said they created these jihadis for fighting in Afghan against Soviets and now they are turned and creating problem them.
SO KHOKAR IF YOU CANT WRITE SENSIBLE AND KNOWLEDGEABLE STUFF THEN AT LEAST DON’T WRITE SOMETHING THAT WILL CREATE BAD IMAGES.
I think balochistan will be a disaster soon. We need to pay heed to this problem now.
May I say , Land Reforms are must so is complete provincial autonomy. Free Education, Infrastructure, free judiciary, free election commission are extremely important .Educate about Din about Humanity (Huquq-ul-Ibad). Most of the problem will be solved. No doubt Balochistan is a deprived province, but frankly if you compare with other rural parts of the country situation is more or less the same.Roads or infrastructure ka kya kerna hai if people live in fear under feudal lord’s rules and regimes.
