Democracy…?
By fzuberi • Apr 7th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 6 CommentsDespair, grief, misery…this is what see around me…
Cheif justice, Long march, Nawaz dismissal…when that finishes a bomb explosion…then another…then an outrages video…that boils my blood everytime I see it…and then…another suicide explosion…then another…
Is this what our people worked, struggled, strived…& then sacrificed for?
Is this what we died for…?
When our people were massacred…like cattle…on the trains…on the roads
on the alleys…many are still…but this is not what we strived for…
“I am on the verge of a nervous breakdown…what is happening?? ”
these are the words on everyone’s lips…
Well, I don’t blame the people who are doing this to us….because it is us who are responsible for all this…
We cried, yelled, screamed…democracy…freedom of press…ELECTIONS… when our calls should have been…directed to the more serious issues…
Like …the threat to our very presence…the act of war by the Next door neighbor..illegal severing of our water supplies…when the people are more concerned about the price of fuel n food…when the drone attacks were killing innocents…but we were directing our attention to the Lawyer’s movement…when we know what is the level of corruption at the lawyers ends…no lawyer is considered honest…(our honorable lawyers indeed!!!)
There are yet people who believe in democracy…when the product of democracy is…the presence of the honorable cheiftian present at the highest pinnacle of power in our Government…
We cry freedom…when all over the world…freedom is nothing but a name…a facade…
Democracy…merely, an idea…
I ask you…only decades earlier…no such thing as democracy existed in greatest of democracies ie Great Britain…
Democracy…for which Winston Churchill himself (thought to be the greatest advocate of democracy) says : “ democracy is the worst form of governance apart from all other known forms. ”
Before democracy…was the world not being Governed???
I ask you…is this the time for reopening the cases of 30 years over, or the threat that is looming slowly like the drones…over us to cease…?
Our priorities define our future, my friends, countrymen & people…
The morality of the writers & educators is not to create despair in the common folk…it is to create hope….even in the bleakest of times…that’s what keeps us alive and leads us forward…
While it is necessary to write about the wrong deeds…it is also necessary to keep the beacon of light of hope alive…as with the Name of Pakistan is attached everything that we take as….ours!
Who writes for hope? Name one??
When someone filed a case in the civilian court these last two years…no one turned a deaf ear to him…all courts all Lawyers busy in strike…
I ask you…did you vote to get Mr. Asif BB…to become president??
Where is this democracy that…we were made to look forward to?
It is not the change of faces that we want & need….it is the CHANGE of the system that brings the same people with the same faces that we want & need…
You can despair a people to a limit…after that the strategy fails…
As Abraham Lincoln said, ” You can fool some of the people all of the time & all the people some of the time but you cannot fool all the people all of the time.”
There is a better time coming….we have to be ready for that, so that we can grab it…as soon as it comes!
For the last rays of hope
within us…

Address The Real Issues

Good Luck Pakistan!!.
I’m no expert in this but every form of government has its own pros and cons. In Democracy, development comes very slow. In dictatorship unlike democracy things can be expedited but again we can’t help nepotism and tyranny. Democracy is being accepted increasingly by many nations to mention the recent ones like Bhutan, Nepal..well I don’t know about western countries.
As you said the real issue is just one ‘Terrorism’. It is again omnipresent, we in India also fear of suicide bombers, train blasts. You said the act of war by the ‘Next door neighbor’.. we are surrounded by many neighbours like that.
Hi fzuberi,
lawyers had long march during Military rule but Ifthiquar choudhry could not be reinstated. But in Democracy mr.10% has to bow to the wishes of people.
You educated pakistanies have to guard this victory eternally. Independent judiciary is one of the pillars of democracy.
Good one, fzuberi!
I am glad there is someone out there who is not over-whelmed by the process itself and can see the real issues.
Fzuberi
it is quite obvious to whole nation that movement of restoration of judges and presence of sharif brothers are not in favour of US that;s why the opposed all those forces who are trying to resume it.Why for two months the punjab areas are being targeted by worst kind of terrorism.13 years before such types of scenes were seen mostly in karachi .So now there conditions were controlled by giving absolute powers to mqm and now center of terrorism is shifted to Punjab , Islamabad and northern side.Such wave of terrorism is actually produced when international forces try to run the state as per their wishes and in reaction locals give reaction as per their capacity. So first we should remove forgein elements and their interests in our state then the days will come when we would be able to enjoy the colours of democracy in its real spirit..
Mr. Unknown, Mr. Johann, Coolpak & Ms. Nazia…
thank you all for taking time to comment on my piece of writing…
Ms Nazia…I am sorry but I dont agree with the obviousness of presence of Sharif bros & Co being not in favour of US. But I raised the point of the fact being that we are ourselves responsible for this situation…
If you think that Gov. being in hands of the MqM …making a difference in the wave of terrorism…I dont know if that is related…How should we remove foreign elements…I wrote earlier that the need is to change the system…
so lets put our priorities
where they should be

It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.
Sir Winston Churchill
British politician (1874 - 1965)
