Dammit, Admit It : Balochistan is Angry
By Salman Mugsi • Feb 17th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 4 CommentsWell enough of the reconciliation in Balochistan. If that’s the way reconciliation is going to work then we are better off than that. The abduction of UN official John Solecki has made it clear that the smiling and flashing reconciliation bids of Asif Ali Zardari have failed miserably and there is nothing like common grounds and mutual love out there.
Getting feedback from all the quarters and asking for apologies and making promises in wholesale are good but that’s not simply enough. That amounts to nothing when it comes to the ground realities. Balochis are as angry as they were before the 18th February. The abduction of Solecki is not just yet another kidnapping. Despite of heavy security, Solecki was kidnapped in broad daylight from the center of the city among many people. Nothing barred the abductors from executing the henious act and they came, did evil, and strolled away.
That shows the lack of will and absence of government writ in the Balochistan. Root cause again, the deprivation and anger of Baloch nationalists. Yes, admit it dammit, Balochistan is angry. We have to do something. They are part of us, they are our arms, they are our brethern. They are us. How could we live merrily with full bellies in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad and just nod away our heavy heads, when Balochis are angry, very angry and frustrated in agony?

Salman,
Baluchistan has been angry since the time we all got freedom from British rule. They had issues then and they have issues now, but no one seems to care for those guys. They give Pakistan natural resource which are necessary for everyday survival but in return they don’t even get anything for their own survival.
It is time now that all the issues of these guys needs to be addressed on priority or there will be things that the government will not be able to handle later.
Hear the voice of baloach Minister in Musharaff cabinet.
Pakistani army is kidnapping baloach woman to force the BLA to submit. Do karachi, lahore know that?
Mr. Mugsi – Sure the Baloch are angry and the reasons are well known so I won’t delve into them. But your post hints that the Baloch nationalist may be behind the kidnapping of John solecki as a mark of protest. Maybe they are but more likely not if you apply cold logic and reasoning. It looks more like the ISI’s handiwork using their protégés, the Taliban.
Firstly, it a totally new group, unheard by anyone up till now, that has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping. The name is also an instant giveaway. BLUF! (I can almost imagine a junior ISI officer chortling away at this aptly named subterfuge.)
What have the Baloch nationalists to gain from this? Nothing. By and large, Baloch are not fundamentalists when you compare them with their cousins in Punjab or NWFP. They have little reason to pick on Americans or westerners who are mostly aid workers, filling in for the responsibility abdicated by their rulers in Islamabad.
Further, the demands for the release of ‘6000 missing people, 141 women’ are so ridiculous and vague, it almost wishes that it can’t be even considered let alone be met. That probably is the intention. A frivolous demand devoid of any relation to reality that is impossible to meet. The only outcome is the death of the hostage, which is how, regrettably, this sordid drama will play itself out. The captors can’t afford to release John Solecki alive, for then the truth will be out.
Now what does the ISI (with its minion the Taliban) have to gain from this?
Discrediting the nationalist Baloch movement specially in the eyes of western governments and rights groups who have taken up the issues of human rights excesses by the Pakistani state in Balochistan.
