Crackdown on Emails and SMS Against National Leaders

By Rohail Butt • Jul 12th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 38 Comments

Interior Minister Rehman Malik has finally declared that government is going to crack down on the people who are abusing the national leaders (read Asif Ali Zardari, the president of Pakistan). Interior Ministry has directed Director FIA to take stern action against such people who are using emails or SMS for the abuse of national leaders.

Now please dont send me any joke or crack about Zardari or anyone else, as I am not interested anymore :)

Talk about freedom of speech.

  1. A2Z tere te lakh lanat :p

he felt the heat ..um loving that?

  2. They didn’t say anything about posting those messages / jokes on our blog or tweeting them, right? :)

  3. aqeeliz, it applies to blog posts also. these are cyber crime laws

people often use highly maligning language against our leaders. these people should be punished for their crime

  4. malik shaib miss no chance to protect our zardari at all costs,he couldnt save his wife from suicidal attacks twice and let her to go to grave with full public honor.
Lets see how he can save his true master from the wrath of public that usually ooze out through SMS.
Before zardari I think it was mussharf and our generals who were cursed through these SMS services. So one way zardari is giving protection to all as he did to general pervaiz musharf.

  5. No big deal! What are they going to charge me for? That I call a “banana” a banana or sack of “potatoes” a sack full of potatoes? They might have to reinvent definitions for ‘thugs’ and ‘looters’ and we will use those where we find resemblance most befitting and if that comes cloe to one or all of these so called leaders. Tough. Either they accept this or mend their ways. As simple as that!

  6. Nazia Bibi,
    Be aware,
All your and arias’s obnoxious comments regarding President Zardari and other national leaders are on record. You can be tried under the new crimes regulations. So please be careful in waging your illicit propaganda against elected government in the future. Its in your own best interest.

    Regards,

    Jeeay PPP! Jeeay MQM!
LONG LIVE DEMOCRACY! LONG LIVE PAKISTAN!

  8. Nazia,
On a serious note,If you think that its an issue of curtailment of civil liberties, why doesn’t Chief Justice Chaudhry Iftikhar take suo-moto action? After all these are the issues where the court can and should intervene and take suo moto action, rather than suo-moto actions on taxation and administration issues.

Although I’m strong supporter of our elected government, I personally feel that harmless SMSs or sarcastic emails shouldn’t be considered an offence. Respect comes from the heart. No government can ever instill respect for leaders through such measures, especially in our electronic age. Rather, elected leaders should earn respect of the nation by doing good for the nation and alleviating serious problems, like unending power outages.

  9. See how people respect and love Quaid-e-Tehrik Altaf Bhai and other MQM leaders. Why? Because of the selfless service, and works of public welfare MQM has rendered to the society. This is why people love and respect MQM.

abay dekh layta hoon tera zardari kia bigarh lay ga, ussay note ginti se fursat milay tab kuch keray na…..

let me tell you if you are trying to scare me……….its not working…………..is this the best you can do? this is to scare the playstation generation types like you…and the fact that you are threatening me with this shows that you really belive this and expect to be caught

ja muna…………….tam na zaya ker (beoff and dont waste my time)

what should I do after receiving serious warning from our little master.Go to UK or hire security men for my security,What else can I say to altaf dada more than runaway character of leader of dead bodies.
if you have any other legal name for this joker then please let me know as it might save me from the house arrest.
On our streets and in legal circles zardari is called the most suspicious murderer as most beneficent character in benazir murder case.It is good that he and his kids have no courage to even file a single FIR against her probable murderers, now they can spit their anger on us by putting us on jail.Baghatay chor ki langooti hee sahee.
Coward and corrupt zardari is our symbol of worst democracy.our fragile little master also accepted this truth so he might be in jail with us even for few hrs.I hope I will enjoy company of two nephews one is very coward and other is very daring simultaneously in our jail. But I think I will be put in G6 jail in Islamabad which is meant for females so you can also locate your area of confinement.
This way zardari might fulfill his promise to give us roti, makan(jail) and kapra(jail’s uniform).
Last night shahaid massod also did an illegal act like that where he compared rangeeal shah with zardari’s regime.Even he said that rangeela shah (zardai) had allowed on of his mule(rehman malik) to his darbar with full protocol to impress other state ministers.so hope to see dr shahid in jail too,
Oh I think number would rise sharply bu no problem they put us in IDPs camps whom they are trying best to vacate for last 7 days and people are not trusting our govt and army to go to their houses in safe modes.
I am really very scare after this licit act of govt.

  12. Dear All,

It is unfortunate, that the state machinery will now be used to safeguard President Zardari’s declining respect. If he is so conscious about his respect, i would suggest him to earn it through his deeds rather then using these draconian measures. Using this law anyone can be put behind bars at the will of the law enforcing agencies. We all are aware that our agencies especially the police is expert at exploiting laws to their needs.

Further at times like these where we are fighting a war, witnessing bomb attacks and losing innocent lives. State and intelligence agencies like FIA will have to divert their resources to these trivial matters.

On the other hand people will face harrasment, while the terror stikes will also increase. Both of these will only create more resentment against Zardari, causing him to losing more respect.

Isn’t this what Zardari is trying to gain in the first place?

    Best Regards to All

Zardari and his team is bound to serve under obligations of IMFand US as per deal for holding such top seats. For rest of matters they are dependent on army establishment. they are only free to move and plan on their foreign friendly trips and on making such actions that could be utilized to increase their image in front of western masters. So It is little brain of rehman malik to guide zardari how to become more good and seem workable in front of western media. This is to plan world tour and shut up the local sms that are emerging from the real sentiments of people whom he is planning to rule for more 4 years.

  17. nazia,
you didn’t answer my question (14)

  18. Maria Sultan # 16

    kamal hai !

that a good one i’ll spread it on SMS right away !

  19. nazia,
Zardari and the PPP led coalition are a democratic government of Pakistan and we must respect this fact. However, harmless SMSs or sarcastic emails shouldn’t be considered an offence.
