Comments on Blog Should be Moderated or Not?
By Ali Yar Khan • Apr 23rd, 2008 • Category: Misc • 41 CommentsBlogging is one of the best thing happened to the mankind since the information revolution and it’s the most cherished and promising hallmark of this so-called information age, and the most passionate fact is that it is here to stay with full might and bang.
Blogging, when it is taken in the context of the modern media has got two distinct and mutually excluded characteristics. One, it has to be spontaneous, and two, it has to be shared without any strings attached. That is why, personally I feel there should be no moderation of the comments at the blogs.
The recent convergence of notions of politics, economy and other social issues at a unified horizon and the rising awareness about them in the common people of Pakistan has done wonders to the future of blogging. Pakistani audience has become accustomed to the private channels and they have seen the fruits of freedom of media.
They want to know all about happenings in the country, and they want to hear all about what the stakeholders say about issues without any editing. They want to see the images and live coverage of all the affairs and they want to comment on it. That is why the private channels are introducing such programs in which people call or sms directly. That is the real democracy and that is why blogging has taken off in the western world.
Blogging is the future in Pakistan. Many beautiful, passionate, information-rich, authentic, learned and sagacious blogs have opened in Pakistan and many more are to come. Blogging is evolving in Pakistan and in our contritely narrow society, blogging is a very pleasant blow of freedom. But this freedom should be extended to the commentors and let them say what they want to say. Yes, there will be spammers, but bloggers would have to work extra to tackle with spammers, but they shouldn’t let spammers ruin the freedom of blogging and commenting.
I would certainly love to hear your thoughts on this, as comments on blogs should be moderated or not?

There should be a check on the comments, as to avoid any collective embarrassment.
Moderated comments normally put off a visitor.
No. What is collective embarrassment?
Agreed with Saba. The answer “Your comment is under moderation” is very annoying for the new user.
Yups it should be moderated by a set of rules so that free speech is not exploited by people the way terrorist Geert Wilders do!
Dear friends,
NEVER NEVER. Let other bloggers decide the CALIBRE of a commentor or blogger. Filthy language is used and can be embarassing for ladies. we cannot avoid filth in life by censoring. One learns to avoid it or the blog owner can delete it if it is very filthy.
. Continuous self neglected deliberate iatrogenic inflictions and moral change in our society from ignorance, rights, credibility, fear of unknown, by the way unconcerned attitude , disobedience of law and loyalty to state are the major concerned, that need to be rectified .We should start taking care of each others .This is the need of time .Orientation to the system and surrounding so to aware people is the responsibility of all those who consider themselves as loyal citizen .Although the available modes to float the opinion and ideas are many ,but restrictions to speech and opinion hinders the individuality on such platforms .since the available platform of blogging is self sufficient to express your say ,within the requisite and essential time frame, I consider the best way to educate people and express your feel
Blogging is an emphasizing reaction. It is a mode to express emotion. It is the means to suggest, ask and predict the possible course of action that may result in a given situation. It is the method to identify the nature and identity by guessing with the instrument of opinion, observation, suggestion and conclusion on available facts and figures with self design reasoning after self interpretation as to, what is what, what if, what for, what of it, how and what about .In short, the core meaning however, is a way to inquire direct and indirect question to request information .this award ,as a spokesman should not be in a manner that can create problems and soreness within the community .Well its only my opinion and I think , the role of media should be to educate people and quantify their queries with regard to expected or suspected outcome . In my opinion ,it is the only platform left where you can expel out what you desire and is appreciably been heard , floated and read as opinion
.
blogging and chatting are differrent subjects ,but in my opinion ,it is gradually transforming in to a new mode of chat.you see what you write and float is the reflection of your thoughts in words ,curtailing your thoughts ,will hinder the action and derange the personality ,you can make checks on words but can not stop thinking mechanics .moderation is essential but restricted and accepted to abuse only .
No. Comments should be as detailed as possible. Dr. Raza Haider is very kind to sacrifice his precious time to educate us. Sharing knowledge is the greatest act of generosity. His efforts must be whole heartedly acknowledged and appreciated. Thank you Doctor Sahab!
Tauseef - I know what you mean. But, if one is frank enough to react in the manner you describe in disagreement or outright rejection of any author, so be it. Facing a situation like this I would not be one bit embarrassed and decide how to react if at all it’s worth my attention. In my opinion only this attitude helps people either to mend their ways or find another place to let out whatever dirt their minds can generate. In my opinion we let such rascals get away with all sorts of bad maners in the name of “collective embarrassment”. No, we should collectively let them have what they need - !
The garbled mumbo jumbo of Dr raza is extremely cumbersome to read. He seems to be promoting himself rather than commenting seriously. I am fedup up to the neck by reading his esoteric and confusing comments (or they are garbage posts?)
There should be a difference between a comment and an article.
Comments should not be moderated, and yes they must be concise and precise.
Comments should be free to flow, but yes they should not become articles. Dr.raza really seems to have a comment diarrhea..
The what you speak is the who you are. In my view the real problem is not with the comments but with the anonymous comments. Once posting as Anonymous, people would tend to write just anything that’s a true reflection of their mind, and this is where the site mods need to have check and control. Filth should be removed surely, and comments tending to criticize the author should not be allowed..

No, comments should be allowed to come out as naturally as nature does.
Mr Talat Husain Malik, usually an author likes to receive criticism. It’s strange you recommend it should not be allowed. Yes, at times it tends to get bit hard, but then no one is saying you must go public. You can always write whatever plaeses your little mind and amuse yourself. I promise no one is going to say a word about it. I mean, come on.
Kamil Paracha, it’s choice. Take it or leave it
Dr. Imran, if Dr Raza Haider has what you think than tough, consume it or out you go! Your choice.
Aftab S Alam, you are acting like Maj Gen Rashid Qureshi acts for Musharraf. Cut the crap and shut your little mind tight.
I am a TPS veteran, reading it since the days of blogspot. Authors are great, and the content is just fabulous, but the smug and self satisfied people like Aftab alam are polluting this fantastic place.
