Chauhar Chowk Suicide Attack : Another Intelligence Failure
By Maria Sultan • Jul 2nd, 2009 • Category: Politics • 5 CommentsIf you live or have been to the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, you will be will aware of the blockades, pickets and barricades after every kilometer. You get extensive driving training by passing throuhg innumerable zigzag barricaded ways on the main and by-roads.
It seems that all this security is there to harrass and create hassles for the common public, as terrorists are still having a field day. One another gory terrorist attack is yet another proof that how fragile and unrelaible the intelligence is, as a motorist rammed himself into theĀ bus on the busy Chauhar Chowk, Rawalpind in the afternoon. The whole area rocked with the blast.
The blast was so powerful that it was heard far and wide and it destroyed at least five vehicles. The blast occurred at a time when the market was overcrowded and people were leaving for their houses. According to news reports, a motorist ran into the bus at his fuel tank, blowing himself up, killing one on the spot.
Instead of harrasing people on the roads, where even the suicide bombers cannot be stopped, intelligence should be made sound and proactive, as suicide attacks doesn’t happen on spur of the moment. They are planned and researched and then carried out.

Also, young educated citizens ( age 21 to 30 years), both men and women, must be imparted basic anti-terror training. New citizen anti terror squads must be formed and these young citizens must be inducted into these civilian anti-terror squads, to counter the threat of Talibanisation in our cities. These civilian anti-terror squads must be granted powers through legislation that allow them to arrest any Mullah or Terrorist Sympathizer, interrogate them, and present them in anti-terrorism courts within 48 hours. Moreover, there is a need to make anti-terrorism courts more efficient, so as to enable them to hand out death penalties to terrorists and their Moulvi Sympathizers within 24 hours, and appropriate legislation should be made, so that their decisions couldn’t be challenged in any higher court of law.
This great proposal was put forth by MQM Quaid-e-Tehrik Altaf Hussain Bhai. It is high time that our government heeds Quaid-e-Tehrik’s words of wisdom.
When Gen Hamid Gul was telling all that these type of attacks are carried out by Indian RAW, every one seemed to clap. Now when Baitullah Mehsud’s letter is found in the body of a carrier addressed to this same general , the news is not even released. Why? how can you fight terrorism when such senior persons are involved?
a likely intelligence failure
My brother just escaped from this blast scene just 5 minutes time lag between his movement and blast. He is among 9th person of our family who faced near miss of what is happening around us.that is why I always blame our intelligence agencies that why ordinary class is targeted in this deadly game.Just 5 minute ahead on left side of this blast, the westredge area of Pindi starts. Here If I am not worng more than 100 retired and serving generals and bgdrs are residing in their luxurious villas why
no body bothers to attack on them who are our real criminals of war on terror. Why this bus whose timing and location were only known to concerned organization had been selected by these illiterate savages.
