Six Rover Scouts died on the spot and over 25 other Scouts of the Pakistan Boy Scouts Association were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up during a religious gathering in Karachi, Pakistan on 28th December 2009.
The six Scouts who were in their Scout uniform, died in the midst of doing their Scouting duties by helping out in Moharram procession.
Immediately after the incident, PBSA Chief Commissioner Lt Gen Syed Parwez Shahid visited the bereaved families and announced that the PBSA will be presenting the Gallantry Award for their act of bravery.
To extend their condolences to the families of the victims, the Regional Scout Committee on behalf of the Asia-Pacific Region conveyed its sorrow and sympathy to the families for their loss and offered a minute of silence during the gathering of Scout leaders and young people attending the 26th APR Scout Jamboree in Laguna, Philippines, where Scouts from other regions also joined.
The Chief Commissioner expressed his gratitude on the support of the region and conveyed his appreciation to all of those who shared their grief in this difficult time. He reiterated that Scouting holds the key to take Pakistan out of its present situation. He appealed to the international community to step forward and express support to the PBSA. He expressed that PBSA will not be discouraged on the recent incident but will continue to serve the community through Scouting.
This is not the first time that a Pakistani Scout sacrificed his life when a contingent member of PBSA named Naseer Muhammad also became victim of terrorism, immediately after his return from attending the 7th SAF Scout Friendship Camp in India in late November this year. He was standing at a bus stop in Peshawar when a suicide bomber blew himself nearby and he died before reaching the hospital.

The death of six rover scouts is tragic, but spirit of helping others will not fade! We need to generates more resources to the scout association, as their vigilance can help in preventing such incidents
Pakistan can benefit from scout movement.School, teachers and parents should start scout groups in their area to improve education and purposeful activity in kids.
Scout, girl guides, academic clubs and students association are very healthy activities for students but it prevails in healthy environment. Here in our system now parents are afraid of sending their kids to educational institute so who will allow their kids to such adventurism.
