Blood-shed in Heaven

By Maham Javed • Feb 5th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 19 Comments

Just like so many other days, 5th February is here. But, 5th February is not just ‘another one of those ordinary days’. It is a day of remembrance, of raising our voices against the massacre ranging in Kashmir since 64 years. Yet, the purpose, the spirit for which this day came into being has been formulated into just another public holiday and sometimes to say ‘Oh, the poor Kashmiris!’ Then back to our work we go and back to oppression go the Kashmiris (as if it were stopped just by our so-called sympathizing statement!)

Sometimes, I cannot help being shocked by the ignorance of the people and educated people at that! Yesterday, I was chatting with my friend and when I referred to today being a holiday, she so very causally remarked ‘Why?’ When I told her it was ‘Kashmir Day’ and she was like ‘Oh, yeah.’ And that was ‘that’.

The dawn of 5th February finds the whole country immersed in enjoying yet another holiday. Occasionally, you’ll find some rallies or banners or that an Imam in a mosque would pray for the freedom of the Kashmiris and this is how at night our newscasters on the Night News would say; their faces wreathed in a smile ‘Today, Kashmir Day was celebrated throughout the country!’

Kashmir, more properly known as ‘A Heaven on Earth’ has been anything but heaven for so many years! It has turned into a blood-shed abode.

The question which arises is that are our own petty interests more important than the killing of so many lives? Does India and Pakistan just want to acquire this ‘Heaven’ regardless of the fact that for the Kashmiris their lives have been a living hell? Why can’t we let Kashmir become independent?

This day, like so many other important days in our lives is not here to be ‘celebrated’ and then as the day progresses into the night just to chuck it out of our memory! We need to ask some really important questions. These days came into being just for the solitary fact of making us realize things and to do something about them!

Each year, I see 5th February come and go but none of us do anything about it. Even now, at this moment while I’m writing this, some innocent Kashmiri is being killed or his home is set to fire!

If someone in our family dies, we mourn and weep for so many days and that person’s death is due to natural causes. What if one of our dear ones dies at the hands of a murderer? Will we be ok with it? We won’t rest until the killer has been brought to justice. And all this time, millions and millions of Kashmiris are being butchered for a crime they didn’t commit and that is being born a Kashmiri.

It’s one thing to have our own differences but it’s another to let that feeling of hate plague us so much that both of the countries keep Kashmir rallying between them as if it were a toy!

Kashmir is not something we own. Its time both Pakistan and India realize about this. Its time that India withdraws its army from Kashmir and its time we conduct a fair and square Referendum in Kashmir. Only Kashmiris should have the right to decide if they want to side up with either India or Pakistan or be independent!!

  1. 29th JANUARY was the birthday of Pakistan’s ONLY Noble Prize winner Abdus Salam for his work on Electro-Weak Theory.

He was one of South Asia’s best scientists of all time.

But Pakistanis completely IGNORED AND HUMILIATED him.

His only ‘crime’ was that he was a AHAMADI.

Curious No Posts on Him here…………but lots of posts abt india!!!!!

  2. I think this time there is no foul words about India. I have spoken as a neutral entity. Besides, its Kashmir Day today.

  3. No foul words from me too……only thing is Kashmir is an INTEGRAL part of india.

Who called today a Kashmir day??

  4. In another Kashmir related article by Fatima Tassaduq i have given a LINK in Comment 2.

kindly CLICK ON THAT LINK and READ!!

  5. Kashmir Banay Ga Pakistan, InshAllah.

  6. HAHHAHA…….keep dreaming……..no tax on that.

  7. You are very mistaken. It isn’t our opinion that counts but the Kashmiris!
‘Kashmir is an intergral part of India!’ Keep dreaming.

Fatima, Kashmir is neither Pakistan’s nor India’s! Kashmir is its own and the matter should rest in the hands of the Kashmiris!

  8. “Kashmir is neither Pakistan’s nor India’s! Kashmir is its own and the matter should rest in the hands of the Kashmiris!” + “Kashmir is neither Pakistan’s nor India’s! Kashmir is its own and the matter should rest in the hands of the Kashmiris!” —– says, Ms. Maham Javed, and I fully agree with her and support her. Ms. Maham Javed, I respect your courage and salute you for speaking the truth so clearly and so bravely, especially when speaking truth is so out of fashion, here, among the people of this damned region (Both, Pakistan and India with over 70% of their population living below the poverty line with ambitions to have a ‘colony’. Shame on them both!).

Of course, Kashmiris must be masters of their own destiny. Who are we to impose our agenda on them? It is an insult to the intelligence of Kashmiri people, their thinkers and their politicians, and their rights and their freedom to decide. History is witness to the fact that Kashmir is Kashmir, it is neither India nor Pakistan, Kahmiris have never been and they must not be subjugated into accepting any other nationality or identity.

Both India and Pakistan must be ashamed to waste the unimaginable amounts of national wealth that could have been used to help the people of Kashmir build their country. They could use all this money to help improve lives of our own people. Shame on the leadership of India and Pakistan to manipulate the public opinion so blatantly in war mongering; shame on the leadership of both Pakstan and India to keep their people so deprived of basic necesities. It is about time that the people wake up and recognize that our enemies are our own people (no American, Europeans, Arabs etc.etc.) in the garb of our leadership.

Then STOP wasting time on Kashmir by writing articles.

  10. Kashmir is one of the registered Henonious crimes of Indian adventurism in the history of globe.

Indian appeal for felonious attitude as insignia is symbolically, a universal patent in the list of gazetted human criminal act, by so called human like.

Humans are nothing more than similar creatures, as similar art of creations as species, in terms of creativity,

Though, differences of habit as habitat, is the factor that demarcates variant creations, among denominating numerical as advanced and groomed.

Among the best activity that with, tenure becomes quality as trait; unique masculine difference is a rational and ethical approach as understanding.

Other includes its reaction with interpreted thought as dignified; being.

    More on the road, humans are considered as Logical, understandable and loving creation that submits thought weighing and considering norms, values, and morals;

It is this refined magnitude of human power as trait that charms under the rule of law of the universe as best creation.

Though this symbol of chastity as honor have always been the subject of disgrace and dishonor in the reign and rain, of and from India.

India as nation, through out the world, by virtue of her illegitimate acts of behaving and mercenary killings have presented and floated such a cruel picture of rift of humanity by humanity that no man in history, neither, may it be a tutorial of Changaiz khan or Hitler can proclaimed.

Indian finest dines and its recipes are based on Chânakya brutal psyche of rabies inflicted mind hence subversions, dismantling, deceive and propaganda are the only presentable dishes of unpalatable taste.

Our, Kashmir again became the victim of ferocious Indian venom, as habitual Indian spitting and hence the undigested repellant anti venom against the savior of brutality is still on the run by our brothers, the Kashmiri, to the road of freedom, against the tyranny and oppression of Indian aggression as, soon to come victory.

This day is the day of assembling of thoughts, at a cumulative platform of Slogan as unity, faith and swearing that we will continue to strive and share our gestures of love to the freedom fighters of Kashmir and our soldiers defending the northern areas of our boundaries, as resistance against tyrannize concept of Indian mentality.

  11. Maham,

Good article, bravo. Keep up the good work.

I completely agree with Aftab, Kashmir is a separate entity and let it decide its faith.

I have read a few articles written by Kashmiri guys, they have clearly mentioned they neither want to be part of India or of Pakistan, all they want is Independence.

Maham, one point on the article Pakistan had holiday y’day to celebrate Kashmir day, may I ask why? If you guys are celebrating the struggle for freedom then why don’t you celebrate 4th of July, which is American independence day, or for that matter any other countries independence day who were liberated from British rule like South Africa.

The simple point behind Kashmir is once Kashmir gets independence, it cannot stay independent for long time. If the leaders of the country then try to merge with India or Pakistan then there will be a war between the 2 countries, reason being the revenue that gets generated from tourism in that part of land.

  12. Adi,

Thankyou for the wonderful words about my article. I am in complete accord with the fact that Kashmiris have become so tired of this war between Pakistan and India, which is making them suffer that now they want to be independent! As for celebrating Kashmir Day, its a symbol of brotherhood; to show the Kashmiris that they are not alone in this and that we, Pakistanis support them and are sorry for their loss. It is to convey to them that we stand beside them in their hour of need.

As long as I remember, we celebrate Kashmir Day. I thought something of this sort must also be celebrated in India but I guess your comment shows that I was mistaken. I know, this celebration doesn’t do them any good but atleast it makes us aware of the violence ranging against the Kashmiris and open our eyes each year. We pray for them and ask Allah to help them.

We are not celebrating just ‘FREEDOM’. And as for America, I guess it has too much freedom for her own good; doing as she damned please with any country of the world!

Besides, you should know why India cannot ever hand Kashmir to us or let it be independent; it is solely for the fact that India HAS to control all the rivers of Pakistan which originate from Kashmir. As you might know, that the India-Pakistan Water Treaty was violated. Anyway, I don’t want to strike up a row, I’m just pointing out the reason. Pakistan cannot let Kashmir go to India for we have seen the brutal killings for no reason at all and because we know why India wants Kashmir. Already, our rivers are not fit to be called ‘rivers’ but a trickle! Whenever, I pass by them it really pains me which is why Pakistan is facing this major Electricity problem but our leaders are too blind to see all this. You must know how your country has been cutting our supply of water from there!

Between, I must say you made me change my mind about Indians and especially Indian Hindus at that! Its saying a lot because I must admit that I hate India very much but it cannot be helped! There’s too much history between us. You however made me show that some of the Indians might be good. I feel it would be so much better for both of the countries if they would just stop causing trouble in each other’s territory. I know, its hard to be friends. That is totally impossible.

P.S: I think you are doing a really incredible job of spreading ‘love’ and ‘peace’. India must be very proud to have you as an Indian. And I can’t believe I just wrote that but I really mean it!

  17. Kindly read PART 2 of the UN RESOLUTION on kashmir………….

PAKISTAN did NONE of the following at 1948.

    PART II

    TRUCE AGREEMENT

Simultaneously with the acceptance of the proposal for the immediate cessation of hostilities as outlined in Part I, both Governments accept the following principles as a basis for the formulation of a truce agreement, the details of which shall be worked out in discussion between their Representatives and the Commission.

    1. (l) As the presence of troops of Pakistan in the territory of the State of Jammu and Kashmir constitutes a material change in the situation since it was represented by the Government of Pakistan before the Security Council, the Government of Pakistan agrees to withdraw its troops from that State.

Question1.Did the Government of Pakistan removed its forces from Kashmir as per UN Resolution of 1948?

    (2) The Government of Pakistan will use its best endeavor to secure the withdrawal from the State of Jammu and Kashmir of tribesmen and Pakistan nationals not normally resident therein who have entered the State for the purpose of fighting.

Question 2.So The UN agreed that pashtun tribals who were not a part of kashmir were fighting along with army regulars.Do u agree?

    (3) Pending a final solution the territory evacuated by the Pakistan troops will be administered by the local authorities under the surveillance of the Commission.

Question 3.When the UN commission decided that Indian forces are to be kept to maintain minimum law and order did Pakistan vacate POK or Azad Kashmir as per insrtuctions of the United Nations?

The UN RESOLUTION had three parts……..

PART 1…………….CEASE-FIRE ORDER(thus LOC was created)

PART2……………..TRUCE AGREEMENT(removal of pakistani tribesmen and troops)

    PART3……………..PLEBISITE………….

    Now read PART 3………………

    PART III

The Government of India and the Government of Pakistan reaffirm their wish that the future status of the State of Jammu and Kashmir shall be determined in accordance with the will of the people and to that end, UPON ACCEPTANCE OF THE TRUCE AGREEMENT* both Governments agree to enter into consultations with the Commission to determine fair and equitable conditions whereby such free expression will be assured.

*pakistan DID NOT accept the truce agreement……….hence PLEBISITE was SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE………

This proves PAKISTAN is RESPONSIBLE for current kashmir problem…………..

  18. Maham,

The water treaty that is signed between India and Pakistan is a different matter. Still as you have raised this point here I would like to highlight a few other things as well. What about the peace process that has been violated by Pakistani army, Kargil war? Pakistani army and ISI has for long supported the militants and the extremists for so many years now, to keep the Kashmir a burning point for all the very purpose.

Also on the Kashmir day holiday there were meetings held in Azad Kashmir by many extremist groups openly and were collecting funds, why the army did not take any action against them. I can get the news articles related to this point.

Maham, every action has equal and opposite reaction, Law in Physics.

When you are saying that you are celebrating this day to show that you are supporting the Kashmiri people in the suffering that they are going through, showing your brotherhood. But your army is using the youth from both sides of border to fuel hate. If this stops then the suffering mentioned by you will also stop.

Also Maham when you are referring to Kashmiri people are you only referring to Muslim population over there? What about the Kashmiri pundits who were killed and tortured and made them run away from Kashmir either with force or threat to life by these same militants. They were also people or citizens of Kashmir that you are referring to. What about them? I your brotherhood extended to those guys also? Or is it only for the Muslim community over there?

Maham you mentioned that you hate India, about the history, but this same history can be tainted by the politicians to fuel hate and keep the fire of hate burning. The hate that you are admitting here might be due to the same process, I am not making any judgments here, just trying to understand.

May I ask you what is it that you hate about India and Indians? What is it that they have done that you hate them?

  19. Maham,

You seems to be a bit of pessimistic kind of a person to me. Not sure whether you are actually one or not.

Why do you say that friendship is hard to be made between the people of these 2 countries? I see it the other way, I find it more simpler and easier to have friendship between the 2 countries. Find or making friendship is always hard. as it takes time for one to build trust in the other person, but it is never impossible as you mentioned. You must have read this “impossible says ‘ I M Possible’”.

Friendship is the way to go ahead for the both countries. If we build good friendly relations between the 2 countries both the countries are going to prosper.

Also your belief of some Indians might be good is true, I would like to make the statement this way, some of the Indians are not that good but in general an average Indian is almost the way I am. He likes peace, friendship, love and happiness. So you can find more of me than more of other people.
