Beware of Establishment

By Fatima Tassaduq • Mar 12th, 2008 • Category: Politics • 2 Comments

The winds of change has scared the forces of status quo and there is a panic in the stale, dark corridors of establishment. All the ministries are preparing tough briefings for the new government and they intend to give them hard times from the day one.

They have already compelled the caretaker government to raise the prices of almost every thing and they are gearing up to pressurize new government to increase the prices of petroleum good. They have also prepared a draft of jack up the power tarriff again. They will refer to the increasing fiscal deficit as a plea for this increase.

The thing is that Pakistani economy like any other world economy possesses lots and lots of opportunities and there always are means to rectify the things. The only thing is that the new ministers must not let establishment make decisions for them and they should not act like a dummy which is there just to enjoy the pricks and to sign off the documents.

The major focus must be on keeping our own house in order, and sacrifices must be made from top to bottom. Prime Minister and the ministers have to set example to motivate and mobilize the nation.

  1. Well said, yet I find an anomaly in the statement that the government is trying to jack up oil prices. If you haven’t heard yet, its a global issue. $110 dollars a barrel today, record high.

  2. Lawyers Agitation Eye Opening Articals

PPP Senator Latif Khosa who is also a member of Pakistan Bar Council and Mr Farooq Naik (likely Attorney General of Pakistan) strongly disapprove Aitzaz Ahsan’s agitation and other pressure tactics for restoration of judiciary which tantamount to subjugating democratic process in Pakistan. Both of these leaders believe that elections 2008 have provided an opportunity to a democratically elected political party and any black mailing and intimidating Pakistan Peoples Party at this stage will harm the cause of legal fraternity. Their thinking and perception is supported by majority of senior lawyers and notable intellectuals in Pakistan.

Each day, newspapers in Pakistan are full of such comments who say that The war for an independent judiciary, remarkable as it was, should have ended on the night of February 18. That responsibility must now pass to the elected members of the National Assembly.

Please read two such articles published in two Independent English newspapers of Pakistan.
