Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has at last addressed the nation, and in his maiden address the most noticeable thing was the announcement of a grand welfare program through which 20 billion rupees have been allocated for development programme for the lower income people.
Prime Minister has said that the Benazir Support Program would start from 14th of August this year, and through this program one thousand rupees would be given to each poor family, and that would be assessed from the NADRA database. That and he also announced that this stipend would increase in the near future, as the economy gets better.
This is a very welcome program and though in front of extreme price hike and abject poverty, the amount Rs. 1000 is very meager, but then something is better than nothing, and government must ensure the transparency in this scheme and make sure that it reaches to the deserving people and not end up in the pockets of the local PPP workers.
