Barack Obama’s Muslim Summit
By Amna Gilani • Feb 1st, 2008 • Category: Politics • 2 CommentsElection campaign in United States are going in full swing, and the spate of caucuses, primaries and super tuesday and other thingies are rocking the United States and also the world. Any statement made by the aspirant of US presidency are received with keen interest and apprehension in the US but also in the outside world, especially in the countries which are closely related to US war on terrorism.
Barack Obama, who belongs basically to Kenya, and whose father was a Muslim wants to hold a Muslim summit. According to AFP, US presidential hopeful Barack Obama has told a French magazine he wants to organise a summit of the Muslim world if he makes it to the White House. Muslim and western leaders would be invited to the summit for “a discussion about how we can prevent the widening misunderstandings and gaps between the Muslim world and the West”, Obama said in the interview to Paris Match. “I will ask them to join us in battling terrorism but we should also be willing to listen in terms of some of their concerns,” he said in the interview to be released on Thursday.
One hopes that this is not a stunt to collect Muslim votes, and Obama really wants that “change” he often promises to US public in his speeches. World as a whole needs change, and the change in US will surely heavily affect the world’s dynamics.

Seems like a great idea. We do need to sit down and talk away the various differences. More and more this world is divided on lines of religion.
If I had not already decided long, long ago that Bill Bonner is just right when he says that people come to believe the things they need to believe when they need to believe them, I would have no logical explanation for how anybody can believe in “the peace process.” Israel is not going to give up Jerusalem, nor allow itself to be un-Jewished at a blow by granting the “Right of Return.” The Palestinians are not going to settle for Jerusalem being held by Israel, nor will the surrounding Arab countries ever grant the sixty-year-plus “refugees” citizenship or take them out of their reverse Potemkin-villages.
