Today I Drag

By Arzoo Zaheer • Mar 8th, 2010 • Category: Misc

I am a mom
Of Three kids
Today, in love
I drag
The laundry basket
Full of their clothes
Neatly, I shall arrange them
One by one, one by one
Iraq, 2005
I am a mom
Of Three kids
Today, in love
I drag
Their body bags
Of My Three
Neatly, I shall arrange them
One by one, one by one, one by one, one by one, one by one, one [...]

Yours and Perhaps Ours

By Arzoo Zaheer • Jan 11th, 2010 • Category: Misc

Dedication: To myself. J I have this funny way of connecting with trees. I have been looking at the Apple tree that belongs to our neighbors, for quite a while. For some reason, my mind had been transfixed at this tree for several days.  Eventually, after several days of “void staring”, I came up with [...]

US infringes Pakistani Sovereignty

By Arzoo Zaheer • Jul 14th, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look

Imperialism at its best.  Pakistan is being used as a pawn again. Politics is a dirty, dirty game. War is business.   People are being killed and their rights are being abused on both sides. States calls Pakistan its “strong ally” but the entire world knows that Pakistan is being coerced into taking sides with States. [...]

Faith

By Arzoo Zaheer • Jun 1st, 2009 • Category: Misc

Little young Delilah
Lost in the woods
Where vultures preyed
On the innocent souls

Feeling alone, lost and scared
She fumbled humbly for food
A lunchbox dear Mom made
Some rice, veggies and fruit

How long will it last?
I will starve to death
And my body would rot
In this darkness to hell

Cruelly, the cold came right into her
Blanching her sense of [...]

Why is the World in Chaos?

By Arzoo Zaheer • May 17th, 2009 • Category: Politics

Today, after writing a bit of poetry about Iraq and Afghanistan wars, my sensitive heart wrenched and cried.  I felt shocked and awed at the intense level of ignorance that was bred into the soldiers and their leaders. My thoughts almost suffocated me as I tried hard to block any mental pain. “What’s the way?” [...]

What Obama Wants?

Hmm! I am pretty sad that Obama mentioned Iran in association with the phrase “a world without nuclear weapons”. And he made a point of associating the word “Islamic” with “Iran” and “nuclear weapons”.  He fails to mention Israel which is located in the same area. By which standards is Israel and US non-threatening compared [...]

States and Torture

By Arzoo Zaheer • May 11th, 2009 • Category: Politics

Read the article “America’s Shame” by Eric Margolis.
Nations that use torture disgrace themselves. Armed forces and police that torture inevitably become brutalized and corrupted. “Limited” use of torture quickly becomes generalized. “Information” obtained by torture is mostly unreliable.
And the American government claims that they are extracting useful information via torture.
CIA “useful” torture information came from [...]

Stereotypes Within Muslim Families

By Arzoo Zaheer • May 11th, 2009 • Category: Misc, Worth A Second Look

As a Muslim woman who loves to study self-defense, I have come across so many stereotypes. Some people, I came across, actually call me “manly”, which is very stupid of them. I just laugh it off though because I know that they are being narrow-minded.  I have seen and met some Muslim folks who actually [...]
