By Amna Gilani • Mar 18th, 2008 • Category: Politics • 6 CommentsWell, I am all for the restoration and reinstatement of the deposed judges and I am a very ardent supporter of the free judiciary, but I would like to divert the attention of the newly elected and oath-ed members that the fire of stomach doesn’t get satiated with the judiciary, rather it needs roti and pani.
Millions of Pakistanis are still deprived of clean water, two meals a day, and basic medical care. Public hospitals who are supposed to tend the needy don’t have beds, drugs and the medical staff. People do not want to stand in queues for all day long in front of utility stores in vain for the flour and other food items. People do not want to live their lives in darkness and they do not want to yearn for the gas and petrol. And there are so many things they want.
So instead of gormandizing oneself totally in the judicial issue, the rulers from PML-N, PPP, and ANP must not escape from their core responsibilities of rendering food, clean water and jobs to the people of this country.

By restoring the judges back to their jobs would take at least these sixty out of ‘poverty’. Only question is if providing them jobs guarantees enrichment of their thought process in addition to restoration of their pelf and power?
Amna, for once I do agree with you. We - the people, media et al - are obsessed with the restoration of the judiciary as if its a panacea and will somehow miraculously solve all our problems. No one gives a damn about the poor, about the ever-rising prices of basic commodities, everyone is saving their own seat so to speak.
Its the most important thing that they should do but I also agree that its not the only thing.
Honestly, I am up to my neck with this. Aitezaz Ahsan, who I initially considered to be a hero, sounds like a broken record.
I want only want bijli and sasta petrol.

Actually Aitzaz also considered himself a ‘hero’ and appears to be frustrated to encounter the reality that he is a mere ‘ZERO’ - which also means ‘nill’ or ‘null’ - neither negative nor positive that means ineffective and perhaps harmless(I would think!). However, poor Aitzaz is trying to convince his few supporters (namely his wife and kids and those fired and jobless juddges) that even ‘Zer’ can be a number only it depends on which side it is placed.
