ANP More Worried about Province Name Than Province Survival

By Haris Hashmi • Aug 13th, 2009 • Category: Politics • No Responses

The news is that Awami National Party, the ruling secular party of NWFP is running feverisly a backdoor channel campaign to take all the political stakeholders and power brokers on board in order to alter the name of the NWFP province. They have formed delegates who are meeting other party leaders and the head of party Asfandyar himself is meeting the party heads.

This is extremely strange. Right now there is a full blown proxy war in the NWFP province. FATA and Swat region are not under the writ of the government. The re-settlement challenge of the Internally Displaced people of Swat and FATA is immsense and there already is huge amount of mismanagement and corruption. The infrastructure of the province is in shambles and lawlessness runs high through the province.

At that moment when terrorism is threatening the province and the world is pointing fingers at FATA and some settled areas of NWFP and calling it hub of terrorism, the party who rules the province is more interested in renaming the province.

What a shame !!!
