An Open Letter to American Policy Makers

Its been years I have listen to the noble intention, nearly all US Presidents and there teams had for Pakistan. This is the same feeling that I got just days earlier, when President Obama unleashed his AFPAK policy. But sitting roughly 10,000 miles away in a third world country named Pakistan, I feel strongly that it is high time that the romance of words rather than action from US must end, or atleast deep inside themselves they should realize what your actions have really given to us.
As a student of International Relations, I have been most fascinated by American history. I say this, after learning carefully your principles from 1776 till the time you molded yourselves into the colours of other Imperial masters, who had ruled earlier.
For myself, US dream is close to
1 Peace and Prosperity
2 Democracy and Defence
3 Security and Stability
To elaborate it a little further, your vision of yourself as the “beacon of Democracy and the guarenteer of free world” is also quite close to my heart. All this that I mentioned in your respect, was simply to remind myself and you also, that it is what you ought to stand for, fine.
Having said this, in reality how actions differ from words, I must say I don’t find a better example than the one which is infront of me, America of today. From 1947, the time we were made, we saw you as the only guarenteer of the free world, based on this stance. Some are more vocal that we were brought closer by our poverty and weakness, but I find no other reason fine reason, than the following that we struggled for Independence from the vary Imperial and Colonial power, which later became the flag bearer of Western Civilization and Democracy. In principles, at least your history and stance showed us the clear gateway, to achieve our dreams.
Contrary to this, America soon showed us that its either “our way or the highway”. Your partnership based on selfish or “national intrest” is no different from a 16th Century Tyrant of Dark Age Europe, who makes the law and implements it in a way, which only pleases him exclusively. You and the history books have justified it many ways, take it as the Cold War politics or Uni Polar order, but in reality it is describable in a single word, and that is “barbaric”. The proponents of democracy never felt ashamed when they were showering praises and extending cooperation to the dictators of our land, which are now responsible for the state of affairs as we watch in Pakistan. When you wanted bases and military presence, you chose General Ayub as your ultimate democratic model for Pakistan, when it came to counter USSR in Afghanistan, you found the same qualities and attributes in General Zia. For once you never thought that, your policies resulted in the separation of our half homeland(1971 Bangladesh), or your selected rather than elected friend hanged the democratic Prime Minister Of Pakistan (Z.A.Bhutto).
No, you cannot justify any of your action, in the paradigm of morality and justice. Of course, you would argue that international politics have no place for these two irrelevant facts, but if that’s the case, I am sorry to say but following your foot prints, those whom we and you term as terrorist are no different, they are just the executioner of your newly invented and adopted “power politics”.
Democracy, according to your founders and fore fathers carried the shadow of
“ Government of the people, by the people & for the people”.
It was nearly two century ago when you vocally supported this theme even before we came into existence, but no one told us that you have worked out the formula of changing this ideology, as it travels from your shores to ours. Till the time it reached here, we could only translate it in this manner
“ Government by my friends, on my opponents, for the ultimate destruction”.
Fine, this is what you want, isn’t it. Now we hear you calling that the next 9/11 will come from the Tribal regions of Pakistan, and sitting here all we see is your experts like Fareed Zakaria (CNN, GPS) and Wolf BLITZER( Situation Room, CNN) portraying us as a nation of extremist, barbaric and uncivilized people, who just love to take the heads off your citizens and destroy whatever progress was made by mankind. My dear, your answer for the next 9/11 lies somewhere else.
It was you who chose General Musharaff over a democratic Prime Minister aand a functioning state, it was you who poured billions of dollars in the name of “war against terror”, that killed thousands of our hospitable and highly noble “pakhtuns” of the Tribal Areas, where thousands disappeared without any trace and where many moderates were transformed into radicals.
This is not all, wherever we see you are following the same path. 9/11 was a very sad and unfortunate day for us aswell, when people lost there life for no reason what so ever, but again in the paradigm of “justice and morality”. If I take up your approach of power politics and interests, we can produce a charge sheet for what really lead to 9/11. But we will stick to justice and morality, as it is the only scale worth mentioning, that mankind has evolved in all this transition from cave to cities. But just imagine how you have countered the menace of terrorism, you yourself have overshadowed that episode with what you have done with the innocent natives of Afghanistan and Iraq. Have you ever counted how many you have killed for that episode, it is even harder for me to give an estimate, as a neutral person. You have ruined the future of generations of these two countries and the real perpetrators, are still at large. Terrorism to counter terrorism is a theory only devised by the Americans. Every single day, your policies across the continents have turned thousands against you, only you. We are still fresh with the visuals of your allies, namely Israel, during the latest Gaza offensive. No book of war fare can justify there actions.
Firstly, you deny the natives the right to choose there leadership. I am not defending Hamas, but the reality is that Israeli and your policies doomed the initiative, we all had to indulge Hamas into peaceful politics. They were pushed to the wall. Home made rockets, which can only accidentally cause a harm, can lead a country to kill civilians here and there without caring for any thing. Above it, you yourself have made a mockery of the vary system, that you devised. I am referring to the UN. When you require, you can surpass it( Iraq 2003, Guantanamo) and when Israel wants, it can bomb its property( Gaza 2009).
Having said this, we in Pakistan still believe in “Change”, the vary change Mr Obama promised. Atleast for once, take us as human beings, respect what we want for ourselves. We want a Pakistan where you stay out of our matters, where you respect our will and where International Terrorism in the shape of “Predator or Cross Border Attacks” don’t take place.
Mr President, the world and the opinion of its inhabitants have greatly changed, especially since 9/11. The triangle of death, namely Bush, Musharaff and Blair have done so much harm to interfaith harmony, like no one else before. You are proud of being guardian of your values and ideology, so are we?. We are unique in many ways, from the fact that we came into existence in the form of a peaceful transaction, though brutalities were imposed on us. We are unique because we got differentiated due to our faith, which is dear to us as it was back then. For 62 years, we have survived against an enemy many times bigger in size and resources, and we are proud guardian and a castle of Islam, that’s what we have stood for all that long. God has given you a chance to undo all the evils, that we have seen in the recent past. The change you so vocally advocated, needs to be implemented also. For you its easy to sneak into our sovereign territory and target our citizens, but the change will be seen if you go after the hidden forces, whoever it may be, and bring them to justice. For a long lasting and stable interaction, one need two attributes, equal level and respect.
I will end it on a positive note, that US positive role during the current “JUDICIAL CRISIS” is welcomed by every Pakistani, and Mr Obama and his team will think in a manner, not adopted by the earlier leaders. We in Pakistan don’t want war or insecurity or harm to any one, we also want to live a peaceful life. Its time that you adopt the principle of “give and take”& “rights and responsibility”.

American policy makers must realize that its time now that they start supporting moderate and true democratic leadership in Pakistan. MQM can provide such leadership. Altaf Hussain Bhai can provide such dynamic leadership.
Altaf Hussain Bhai may be 10,000 miles away from his dear homeland and his people, yet, he shares the pain and sorrow of his people. He leads them by example. This is why people love him and listen to him so carefully. Altaf Bhai’s exile is not his own choice. He yearns for the day when we will return to his dear homeland. However, it is the people, the poor people, who always beg Altaf Hussain Bhai to stay abroad in exile, because the people want safety their respected Quaid, at a safe location, so that he can effectively work and lead the struggle for the rights and welfare of the poor people, the middle classes. This is how the poor people love and respect their leader. This is the quality of leadership. And this devoted leadership has inspired so many youngsters from among the unprivileged middle classe people of Pakistan to come forth and serve their people with the same zeal. See Syed Mustafa Kamal, the 2nd Best Mayor (Nazim) in the World as declared by the Foreign Policy Magazine*. This is how the esteemed Foreign Policy Magazine describes this young, energetic Mayor of Karachi:
“The 36-year-old Syed Mustafa Kamal governs a city that’s more often in the news for religious violence than cosmopolitan ways. But the hard-charging Kamal is looking to change all that. He’s courting foreign investment, encouraging international ties, and boosting the city’s tourism.”
“Mr Kamal is not shy about his goals: He has said he wants to turn Karachi into the next Dubai”
It is noteworthy that Mr. Kamal belongs to a poor family and Altaf Hussain Bhai only nominated him as candidate for Nazim’s election because of his talent and strong motivation to serve the people. Syed Mustafa Kamal didn’t even have money to buy a decent suit. So when he went to London to attend MQM meeting, Altaf Hussain Bhai took him for shopping and bought him new clothes. And look how well Syed Mustafa Kamal is serving Karachi and its people. Karachi has never seen such massive development in the past 100 years, that it is witnessing under the able City Government leadership of MQM. This is what is called selfless service.
ALTAF HUSSAIN’S COMPASSIONATE APPEAL TO
THE CITIZENS OF KARACHI TO BRING CALM
Mr Altaf Hussain, founder and leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) addressing the people of Karachi particularly youth said that he is profoundly saddened, dismayed and in despair over the killings of more than 2 dozen citizens of Karachi as a result of unprovoked firing by the terrorists of land mafia, drug cartel, hardened criminals and Taliban and further said that every citizen of Karachi must be tearful. Mr Altaf Hussain compassionately and strongly appealing to the angry crowd asked them to exercise total restraint over this great tragedy and not let their patience run out while endeavour for the God sake, to save further lives from being lost. Mr Altaf Hussain also appealed to the leaders of all the political parties based in Karachi to play a positive and proactive role to bring peace in the areas under their influence
you have said it right Mr. Hamid. Pakistan has faced a lot more than we say. you can easily remove azad kashmir as pakistan’s part and also sindh, baloch and nwfp, they all wanted to be separate. Karachi’s people still want to be part of India, balochistan has been with Pashtun people of Afghan. So what’s left? Punjab! heart land of Pakistan, this is the only part that gave birth to heroes of our country. this is the land of the brave in reality, it’s not a joke. Im 100% sure if any war is likely to happen in a month or so, Pakistan’s army is going to defeat the enemy. Punjab’s each man would go to war and fight. I’ve heard from elders Indian planes couldn’t break ravi’s bridge and most people know why.
wow mehreen wonderful comment..after reading your comment I think there is no doubt in my mind that there are people like you in this nation who want to break free and for the sake of sanity please dont’ give vent to such feelings as you are proud Pakistani. Leave this to the pathetic indian’s who frequesnt this blog/ website to write such comments.
I advise you to write about issues like grave worshipping etc. which is the root cause of all problem in Pakistan. The nation would have been wonderful and a model nation had the politicians tried to imbibe the true spirit of Islam for example banning grave worship which is similar to temple worship by the hindus and introducing interest free islamic banking in the country.

Has no apparent source of income. So, where is the money coming from?

-Benazir survived an assassination attempt in Oct 07 did she run away?
-Nawaz Sharif survived an assassination attempt when he was PM and threats to his life on the day of the long march, did he run away or cancelled his paln for long march?

The notorious Zaani Playboy of the world Imran Khan has been banned by the Government from Entering Karachi. This action has been taken to foil Imran Khan’s attempt to ruin the peace of this great metropolis, as he had previously threatened to disrupt the peace of this beautiful city of Karachi.
It must be noted that Imran Khan is an Extremist Politican by the day, and known as a notorious playboy at night. He has several illegitimate children born out of his affairs with women in Europe, USA, France, England, Israel etc. In Pakistan, Imran Khan is known as a HYPOCRITE, an anarchist, who doesn’t enjoy support of 0.0001% of the Pakistani people. Imran Khan is notorious for instigating violence carried out by his infamous party’s goons on 12th May 2007, in Karachi. Numerous innocent civilians were killed in this violence.
