American Double Standards
By revo • Feb 2nd, 2008 • Category: Pakistan Vote'08, Politics • One ResponseI am really impressed by the happenings in United States leading to their Presidential Elections later this year. Election momentum is building up there steadily, as the candidates of both Republican and Democrats are fighting their way through the primaries, caucuses and other milestones, and the game is still going on.
Every candidate in US of either parites are trumpeting the importance and sanctity of democracy, free media and free judiciary, and they are condemning those who dont follow their dreams and approaches, yet I am shocked and utterly baffled as why then Bush Administration is supporting the autorcratic and despotic rule in Islamabad? I mean why not in the hell they speak out the dismal state of judiciary and human rights in Pakistan?
A huge number of judges have been deposed by the regime, and most of them are under house arrests for months. Many notable lawyers and barristers are also under incarceration without any reason and yet United States doesnt budge a little. When Condoleezza Rice says that human rights and democracy are same everywhere and everyone should be obsessed by them, then why not she comes forward and point this grave violation of human rights?
Pakistan is a strategic ally of US in its war against terrorism, which courtesy to US has become the war of Pakistan. It’s US support which has actually hindered the democracy from blossoming in Pakistan. If only US had supported the cause of free media , free judiciary and democracy in Pakistan, things would have been entirely different.

War in Pakistan is not only the fault of US but also the fault of Pakistani people. They always showed a very supportive attitude towards the religious extremists but now that they have entered into Pakistan proper, the people are shifting the blame to the US and the goverment. True they are also part of the problem but it is our fault as well. You talk about free media , free judiciary and democracy in Pakistan, how do you suppose that will stop the extremists. They have their own ideas: no media, their own version of justice and a despotic rule. I think the people should try to look down their own throat as well and stop conspiracy theories. War is here in Pakistan and it doesnt matter whereever else it is. People need to realise that and reject all kinds of intolerance and extremist attitudes. Are you wililng to let a self proclaimed coimmander from Uzbekistan tell you how to run your country? I’m not.
