America Enjoys Super Tuesday, and we are told ‘Shut Up’
By Ghazala Khan • Feb 5th, 2008 • Category: Pakistan Vote'08, Politics • No ResponsesWe Pakistanis are envious of American public who is right indulged in Super Tuesday with all zeal and zest, and America is just rocking with the fervor of Elections, which are still months away. In Pakistan, though we are told that Western democracy is not for us, and neither could we enjoy the same basic rights, and we dont have the right to protest.
The hapless people of Pakistan are looking with their dejected eyes, as the world rejoices in economic progress and technological miracles, while we are still entangled in suicide bombers and despotic regimes. We are still yearning for the flour, power and gas, and the food inflation has made us look like a stoned animal. Our children are hungry while they hold out their plates for food, and we have nothing to give them except tears.
The Pakistanis deserver far much better, and they are no less than any civilized citizen of the developed world. We understand and yearn for democracy as others do, and we deserve to be treated at par with the citizens of other countries. The right to elect leaders, the right not to be beaten by the goons of Police, the right to express ourselves freely and our right to have full access to the justice must be available to us without any strings attached.
Like American Public we also want to show the electrifying passion for the process of democracy, and for the process of elections. This desire is enshrined in our core and our hearts are yearning for it.
