Ambit of Lawyers Movement
By Brig. The core objectives of the lawyers movement remains the same, though it is changing with the passage of time, and that is why it has remained on the niche of the things and due to this adaptability it remains able to attract the popular approval in Pakistan.
In this change process, many untoward and unwanted incidents have happened like throwing black paint on the face of Ahmad Raza Qasuri, and the shoe-treatment of Dr. Sher Afgan Niazi. These incidents were despicable but they seem very minute when one sees the treatment given to lawyers during the era of Sher Afgan.
The people who are raising hell over the Sher Afgan issue never uttered a single word when daily lawyers were beaten, abused and incarcerated in all the cities of Pakistan. When two shoes were applied at the head of Sher Afgan, MQM burned the whole Karachi city for a while, but when Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary was maltreated, they never uttered a word.
The scope of lawyers movement is just not the restitution of deposed judges. It goes beyond the reinstatement of judges. It basically rallies for the supremacy of justice and the implementation of constitution. Freedom of judiciary means the freedom of the country and that is what the objective of this lawyers movement are.
