Adopt One Family From Displaced People of Swat, Dir, Buner

By Ghazala Khan • May 8th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 7 Comments

With every war is attached an imminent humanitarian crisis and the Malakand War is no exception. More than a million people have fled their homes and they are unable to get any refuge. The thought of leaving home without taking anything along except a few items of utmost importance is terrible to contemplate. There are some camps which are established in Swabi and Mardan, but they are already overflowing and not an ant can squeeze in there anymore. Now hundreds of thousands of people are laying under the sky waiting for either death or some miracle.

We can be that miracle for them. These people have sacrificed for us. Instead of becoming human shield or accomplice to the Taliban, they have opted to join the operation carried out to save Pakistan in a way by escaping the area and providing much needed clear ground to the forces to root out Taliban. These people need our help.

Would it be possible for you to just take one family and make them guest in your home? Especially the people of Attock, Haripur, Abbotabad, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Rawalpindi and above all Islamabad; would you people please please adopt one family just for couple of months at most?

  1. Ghazala
your all suggestions are practicable as we have thousands of rich families living in their luxurious life styles but most of these guys are cold hearted and consider these people as burden or will consider them as source of cheap work for their domestic jobs. Thanks we have edhi like selfless people who have helping these people in much prompt actions than our govt people or even foreign support NGOs who are started looking for dollar funds .A golden opportunity to fill their pockets by presenting these displaced people in more pathetic form in foreign media.

  2. I am ready to adopt some 5-10 families. What is the procedure??

  3. ghazala your concern is good. and i agree that people can donate money and help in other ways but it is not practical to ask people to adopt displaced person. Only NGOs which have government and Non-government help can do this job. There are many complex issues in adopting…so this is a non workable idea as I think. plese dont’ mind.
nazia, i find your comment very satirical and your poking fun at people for being rich and not giving them due resopect as businessmen and other professional really work hard. As I wrote above asdoption is a not a good and workable idea and my only sudggestion to all would be to get out from their ideiot box-tv abnd see the reeality-i mean everybody welcomed taliban agreement and when these taliban became threating to government then the same people asked the pakistani authorities to ag against the taliban. how synical. first you welcome and then u criticise. this is bad and absurd beghaviour.
proudpatyan! you can check and google the name soi NGO and other agencies who provide this service. it is only a 1-2 minutes job on ythe net clicking on google, by the way people who are humble they dont’ behave like you. i mean if you are real then you can start your effort on youreldf anf not to delpend on ghala to rprovide you the information. you are cynical. and not proud pathan ads youy cliam to be,

  4. An idea like this could be useful in taking care of people. How would it work practically? Is there an organization this could be set up through? Please use the Wiki page/site at:

    http://pakistan.wikia.com/wiki/Internally_Displaced_People

or one of the other sites and pages (including the ones on this site).

  5. i am part of a group of caring pakistanis who are providing relief on our own to those idps who have not been approached by anyone as yet. i do agree that adoption of a family is workable only under certain conditions. generally, it will give rise to cultural, financial, and family problems. a better approach in my view is to support thee families in getting settled at a place where they live together as community either in a building or a better facilitated camp( if there is one). rent and other expenditures can be met through donations at individual or collective level.

only those women, children should be adopted who have no one else to call as family.

  6. Hi Ghazala

We have set up a camp for these families in Burhan.

We’re looking to set up 100 families. We have started receiving them and need support. Do you think you can help? We can take you to the camp and show you the place.
We will set up vocational and educational facilities. Currently this is all managed privately. But I expect that we will need outside funds and / or material support. Would appreciate any help / advise.

regards msk.bangash at the rate of gmail dot com

  7. hi again…if you are aware of genuine families who need to be homed immediately, we have the capacity to accomodate.
