Adnan Sami is Disgraced, Despised

By A Khokar • Dec 19th, 2008 • Category: Politics • 13 Comments

Mr. Adnan Sami khan, the young Pakistani singer who, in a fit of rage, left Pakistan and travelled to India, settled there and turned his back on his homeland and his people. Today, he learns the hard way the value of the motherland.

In an interview Jagjit Singh the singer who is hailed in Pakistan for his gahzals, shows his deep rooted hatred toward Pakistan and especially for Adnan Sami Khan.

 Excerpt of his interview:

As a legendary ghazal singer do you think there aren’t too many takers for your style of music?

I am not saying I will change my style of singing for them. But the style of music, style of instruments which are used and played today actually sounds good. I don’t want to become like today’s singers who actually don’t know how to sing. I am just saying that I like the beats of the drums. Otherwise contemporary music is dhin chak, dhin chak. It is almost like a remix, with less sur and taal.

So which singer can’t sing?

Many are there, almost all. I don’t want to name someone and make a controversy. Everyone knows who all cannot sing.

Ok. Who has been your inspiration?

Mehendi Hasan and Mohammed Rafi Saab.

If not a singer, what would you have been?

I would have been a dhobi because I love to press (iron) my clothes and I also have a factory that manufactures such machinery.

When was your first stage performance?

I was in class 3 and I sung a ghazal and won the first prize.

After the terrorist attack in Bombay, how should Bollywood treat Pakistani singers since the terrorists were trained across the border?

Bollywood should ban them. That’s all. It is as simple as washing your hands after using the toilet. India should ban or cut all relationships with Pakistan as soon as possible. Some Pakistanis come with weapons comes to India on one hand, to earn money and fame and on the other hand with In hand with weapons and some of them come to make money and become famous. Ek taraf zakham dete hai, dusri ore marham lagate hai. They come to India earn money and don’t even pay tax to our country. Then what’s the point of giving them a platform here?

But Pakistani singers are said to be very good.

Hahaha! I should tell you that shouting loudly does not make anyone a singer. Every one is not Mehendi Hasanji. There is another very popular singer whose name I can’t remember figure if it is girl or a guy singing. There are so many good singers in India so why bring them from Pakistan? Getting ‘imported product’ is the fashion in India, because singing talent from Pakistan is imported. No need to give them a place to stay or chance to stay because they don’t even pay taxes. India is calling people from Pakistan that’s why they are killing us. History stands testimony to the fact that of Indians welcomed the British to India and then they ruled us for 200 years. So why are you allowing any Pakistanis to enter India? Government should strictly end all relations with Pakistan and Bollywood should boycott Pakistani artists.

Which Pakistani singer are you pointing to? Is it Adnan Sami?

No, no woh toh galti se singer ban gaya. He had come here to become an actor and by mistake he became a singer. He can’t even sing. People like him should be sent back to Pakistan to work there because they make money in India and send it to Pakistan.

  1. There are great Pakistani singers (Mehendi Hasan) and there are the so-so ones (Adnan Sami). The market will attribute value accordingly. There is no need to make it more than what it is. As regards, the rest, truth is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.

  2. sino: “There is no need to make it more than what it is.”

Absolutely right. Adnan Sami’s standing in the market should be his concern. If the market players (including competition) chase him out of the market, it does not threaten our pride and not an insult to the Muslim Umma ( ! ) and must not be misconstrued as such.

  3. Khokar,

This is what I hate the most.

It is his business or profession and his problem, why are you so bothered about it.

By any means is he your relative? If not so then stop bothering in other peoples business mind your own.

One suggestion, in case if you don’t have something good to write about which will be good for people at large and not hatred filled then, spend some time with your wife / girl friend if you have one, if you don’t have find one.

I think it is very much necessary for you now.

  4. I think everyone is entitled to their opinions - regardless of race, caste, creed, color or geographical boundaries. I do not see any hate-speech here.

  5. Dear Adi,

And what will you say about Jagjit Sing deliberations?

  6. No one can make you feel third class without your permission.

  7. Aftab S Alam,

This is matter of pure India and Pakistan relations only. There are much more Muslims living in India than Pakistan; so Muslim Ummah business doe not cut any marks here. Such interview only show the deep seated hatred which is found rippling as under current next door toward Pakistan and keeps on surfacing now and then. That we should be aware of.

Jagjit is not politician and when it comes out from the mouth of an artist of such a stature that should be the matter of our concern.

Love for all, Hatred for None

“Love for all, Hatred for None”

Reading all your diatribe here in conjunction with your slogan makes me smile. I am reminded of an old chest nut: The difference between theory and practice is a lot bigger in practice than in theory.

  9. Sino,

‘Love’ emanates from the fountain of truth only and ‘Hatred’ stands there as its adversary.

  10. At the risk of repeating myself: Say what you mean and mean what you say.

  11. Hi Khokhar,
This singer jagjit singh has lost his market after his first casette. “unforgettables”.Now by putting down everyone , he wants to get into limelight by creating controversy. He has his views. But anyday i will buy Adnan sami especially his song”lift karde’ will ever remian in hindi pop. His other views about Pakistani singers is similar to our banning the cricket matches. the logic is same. There are others who are good at telling jokes and are in our TV channel. There is this view point that Pakistan wants to earn money from India without giving anything in reciprocity especially friendship. This Mumbai attack is actually carried out by D company to blackmail our Big business cats. Now they feel war may be better option than paying the blackmailers whose appetite is whettted.
It is ordinary pakistanies and Indian who will suffer.

  12. Leave aside Adnan Sami , If Jagjit sahib criticize him on professional bases then its ok, he has the right.

BUT these remarks from hi, hurt me as his fan, really hurt.

  13. I think Adnan is a dammn good singer but has no market in Pakistan to prosper. That explains why most of thier artists head to India. I think it deals directly with a poor economy like Pakistan with such high Inflation levels, people have precious little to go shopping for cd’s and concerts. Add to that the religious polarisation where mullahs make diktats ordering people what to see, what to hear.

The elite few don’t make a difference to the economy. The policy makers don’t have a strategy. The Army seem to be at the helm of affairs all the time to destablise the nation. A country which spends 45% of its budget on defence. Like Madeline Albright (former secretary of America) said Pakistan is a migraine of the world, they have an uncertain democracy, they have religious fanatics, and they got nuclear weapons.

I think all Pakistani artist should be banned in all its manifestations. Having said that i got nothing against them but its thier government and army who seem to have only one agenda”Bleed India”.
