A Nose of Wax

It seems that our government now is in a mood to lend an ear to Shakespeare, “Condemn the fault and not the actor of it.”(Measure for Measure) The news is that the capital punishment i.e., Death Sentence may be changed into Life Imprisonment.

As I see it, there seem to be two possibilities for this change. First, that perhaps the government wants to let go Sarbajit Singh who was otherwise waiting to see the gallows. And besides that we have that someone among us who might have fears of being charged with treason when the wind is not on his side.

The question is, whether the amendment would have a prospective or a retrospective effect. That being said, in a country where the Constitution itself is a nose of wax, everything is possible and any kind of amendment can be done at any time in any form to serve the purpose. Andher Nagree Chopat Raaj!!

  1. tatal very good perpective view regarding opinion someone among us who might have fears of being charged with treason when the wind is not on his side.good approach .as to my opinion, power to grant mercy lies in the hand of president and its his constitutional prerogative.this ammendment if implemented will benifit manjit and there is a clear perceptin and feel that this manipulation may have some perspective view as you pointed out ,grant of clemency is not the issue . ammendment have propective implementation in such cases.

  2. “who might have fears of being charged with treason” He will be escorted by the Master to a land of Peace
