Dear All,

"The silver lining is that the president now has a historic opportunity to correct two great wrongs, viz (1) scrap the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and/or (2) annul his action of Nov 3 and restore the superior judiciary.

Restoring the superior judiciary will put himself at risk but in the circumstances what has he got to lose? The onus of responsibility will then be firmly on Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry to revoke the NRO.

He is morally bound to send this black law to the dustbin. More importantly the chief justice will be under no obligation to anyone for restoring him to office. This will be Iftikhar Chaudhry’s acid test, otherwise was all the rhetoric about the rule of law during the long period out in the cold mere lip service and Musharraf-specific?

The president’s predicament can be gauged from only a cursory reading of “The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner”. One can imagine that the situation may be nerve-wracking for even someone as iron-willed as Pervez Musharraf, particularly when the coalition is using the media as a potent spy-war weapon.

Most of those he counted on to be loyal have either forsaken him during his hour of need, or are playing a waiting game on a fail-safe line, nothing new in Pakistan where loyalty is often up for sale. However by repeatedly asking the president to resign and failing to come up with a charge sheet before moving a resolution in the National Assembly, the coalition is less than confident about a successful impeachment process. It may indeed be bluffing, trying to spook the president into resigning.

The allegations that Asif Zardari made about President Musharraf siphoning off funds given by the US for re-imbursement for engaging in the “war against terrorism” is extremely dangerous and contrary to national interest.

Zardari alleged, in sync with Karzai, RAW and what others have been saying for the past week, that these funds have been funnelled to rogue elements in the intelligence agencies (by which he obviously means ISI).

Not only this is absurd, it puts the ISI (and by extension the Pakistan Army) in the dock. Putting Pakistan’s defence structure in jeopardy may be the real reason for trying to impeach the president.

The person of the president may be under attack, the army as an institution is the real target. While the army hierarchy may have become gun-shy of politics, how long and at what cost to the nation will they remain deaf, dumb and blind to the obvious?"

"One advice given to President Musharraf is to apologise to the people of Pakistan and the judiciary for sacking Iftikhar Chaudhry and the other judges and restore them all before quitting....."

I read same report and it is almost going in same manner but he is doing very smart act here by indirectly sacking Zardari too. If he will restore Judiciary then it would be death of Zardari all together. How Zardari can survive, if judiciary will be revived and they will cancel NRO?

It is like,

HUM TO DOOBAY HAIN SANAM... TUM KO BHEE LAY DOOBAIN GAY...

Good work.

Daily Times- Lahore, Urdu dailies Aajkal and Waqat have come up with news that President Pervez Musharraf will announce his formal Resignation on the occasion of Independence Day-on 14 August 2008.

Excerpt from Daily News dated 13 August 2008 is as follow:

------------------------

Musharraf to announce quit decision tomorrow?

* PML-Q leader says coalition to give president safe passage if he resigns ahead of impeachment
* Musharraf advised to apologise to nation, judiciary for sacking judges

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf has decided in principle to quit and a decision in this context will be announced by him on August 14, Independence Day, a senior Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader confided to Daily Times.

It is learnt that if he resigns ahead of the impeachment the ruling coalition will give him safe passage.

Apologise to people: One advice given to President Musharraf is to apologise to the people of Pakistan and the judiciary for sacking Iftikhar Chaudhry and the other judges and restore them all before quitting. Another advice to him is to restore the judges and say he will accept whatever judgment they give on the validity of his presidential election last November and the legitimacy of the Provisional Constitution Order. It is not known what decision he has taken in this regard.

It is understood that if he resigns, President Musharraf will remain in the Presidency for a while as allowed by law until he is able to shift to his newly built home in Chak Shahzad on the outskirts of Islamabad, and possibly leave the country a few weeks hence.

Dear khokar Sahab,

Let me to say that you are doing great job. First, you writes such a nice blogs/articles and then you constantly remains with commenters. Very few authors follows this practice. I some time even feels that few authors only writes for themselves. They hardly bother to read comments and respond accordingly. No body is perfect but couple of replies from author feels good that he is reading our views and considering it for discussion. Otherwise the purpose of BLOGGING is not fulfilled. It is better for them to send their posts in Daily News instead of blogging them.

Keep it up and people like you are required to change the thoughts of people in right direction.

Dear All,

This impeachment of President is a very complex issue which will be subject to the allegations contained in the charge sheet. It is not the personal conduct of the president which is being impeached rather it is the governance of the President which is at stake in which he was not alone. That is to say that charge sheet may drag in many, many more people into it; that is also to say; many more military red tapes.

But why after all we forget that there was a full fledge Transitional Program that president chalked out. He has declared that once he feels that system evolved were enough mature and Pakistan economy had become vibrant ; he will decided that now executive power be handed over to the civilian democratic government. Accordingly President Musharraf started with handing over of his military powers and asked the Military to return to barracks; followed by his announcement of holding of democratic elections; the election campaigns was run; he Issued a National Reconciliation Order to allow even the defunct and other politician on exile to come back and participate in election; then there was arrival of BB, Zardari,Nawaz sharif and others; all their pilferages, loots charges were also waived; followed by the holding of most free and fair election in the history of Pakistan and then we witnessed the formal formation of a new government.

After achieving every thing; the way the gentleman planned and now; here comes the impeachment; This impeachment is of whom and by whom? It is impeachment of a person who has given a new life to Pakistan. What a fiasco? President ought to be given his due place, which a man of his stature and a saviour desrves. Are we that thankless a people void of any insight that we can not see beyond the illusions and fogs being created to mislead people and fail to recognise the truth?

In the light of all above; in my opinion this has become incumbent on the new COAS now that man comes forward and should place all the facts and the Transitional Plans very explicitly in front of nation. It was after all President Musharraf plan that; hence forth Armed forces will return to barracks and cease to take part in politics in the future.COAS was handed over this charge. This will be a conduct un becoming on the part of COAS, if he does not come forward and explain.

Why every body is keeping mum on it. This fogy situation must be cleared to give a mental relief to the people of Pakistan.

Dear Saleem Khan,

I did not mean that you are a Geo TV influenced person; No you are not because you talk sense and bear with magnanimity and logic. Thank you for that.

Since we are talking about Geo TV and today I was watching an interview of Zardari with Geo TV anchor Hamid Mir. Where I could find that Zardari is the most boast full a person, he also kept on snubbing Hamid Mir time and again for his general conduct as anchor. Zardari was quite weary of him. Zardari said that Hamid Mir is just a small fly who keeps on poking nose unnecessarily in political affairs and that in his talk he exceeds limits. He said that you mislead the people. [Tum logoan ko gumrah kartey ho.]

With best of regards
