2007 & Post Benazir Assassination Era: An Opportunity Lost?
By Farid Masood • Jan 24th, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • One ResponseNations learn from their experiences and event occurring within and around for them. Year 2007 & 2008 in a sense of awakening were blissful years for the Pakistani Nation. Such great years of tests, efforts and rewards can hardly be witnessed in history of nations.
Serial of historical events occurred starting right from March 9, 2007, May 12, July 20, November 3 & December 27th. Post March 9 time, the Nation risen on the occasion, told the dictator Our Dear Sir its not as you assume it would be as we want. Nation won on 20th July and dictator lost. Wounds of Lal Majid were cleaned with antiseptic decision of July 20. We must appreciate Mr Justice Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui’s ‘NO’ on 12th October 1999. Justice Ramday went ahead as per nation’s will and dictator became loser again on November 3, 2007.
On December 27, we lost a leader of international stature and poster in a brutally planned act of terrorism. A year full of national event ended with a great sorrow & grief.
18th February 2008 was the day when the nation asked the dictator and his regime to pack up. But those who posses sense can understand the soft language of democracy so the dictator kept lingering on.
Political parties promised the nation to return what it wanted, for what they gave verdict through their votes. March 31st went silent then May 12 was like older day. In brief, nation went on giving time to elected leaders to act upon its will. Year 2008 gone with the resignation of Mr Musharraf and even then political parties failed to deliver even after getting hold of every rein of power they wanted. Our political parties present in 2007 never learnt a lesson. Democratic government formed in 2008 never learnt a lesson, a lesson to serve the nation as per its demands.
The nation wanted to re-instate deposed judges, to see power of democracy by taking ex-president in the court of law to face the charges of murder of innocent children of Lal Majid & ladies of Jamia Hafsa, undermining the judicial system, destructing the law and imposing PCO twice, threatening a government dignitary of equal grade to leave the seat of Chief Justice of Pakistan, staging a drama to seize functioning elected government to take power, lying with the nation on national issues and security of the country, killing of ex-governor and ex-chief minister Baluchistan Nawab Akbar Bugti, mis-use of power in various issues, sponsoring killings of innocent citizen of Karachi and what not. The nation wanted to see the killers of Benazir Bhutto meeting their due fate.
Coward-ness prevailed and no decision can be implemented in favor of the nation. With in four month Musharraf had learnt about his mistakes while the situation was otherwise when he was in power. Nation gave him more than eight years, Mr Zardari may not be having much time when he start to mourn on mistakes. March 9 is not far ahead and by the time its would not be more than eight month and environment seams to be staging another national event.
If the government of Pakistan Peoples Party do not probe case of Benazir assassination then it would become history and no other party may take interest in it and it will be a blind case of killing and such events may continue in future again.
PPP have to re-instate deposed judges and deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry in true letter
and spirit, stop taking imported dictations on national matters, implement parliaments decision in internal and external issues if it want to prevent a dictator taking over the reins of power in future.
December 27th, 2007 was the day of resolutions, February 18th 2008 was the day of decision and post March 2008 days were to plan indigenously and implement indigenously. Every passing day we are loosing an God gifted opportunity. Now time is short to act.

You are wrong Mr. Massod, there was no opportunity at all, only stupids (like you) were taking this as opportunity. I was warning you guys, don’t support these two times tested corrupt and insincere politicians but you wanted a change (and the change is here for the worst).
At least during Musharraf period there was a poltical and economical stability. We have gone back to the situation of Oct. 99 within a year. Let’s see in next 4 years where will Pakistan stands.
