100 Shoes, 100 Onions; Gilani Retreats

Not only they have taken back the notification, they have also accepted the recommendations of the apex court for the nominations of judges.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has announced the formal withdrawal of the two suspended presidential notifications Wednesday following his meeting with Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry at the Prime Minister House. The government has also decided to elevate Justice Saqib Nisar and Justice Asif Khosa to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, while Justice Khalil Ramday will be appointed as an ad-hoc judge in the apex court.

Why in the first place they took this unconstitutional decision? It has become a routine from the government to go for some adventure and then after facing resistance from media, judiciary and opposition, they retreat. It is for sure that the presidential camp is still of the opinion that the view of Chief Justice of Pakistan in the nomination process was not binding on the president.

But as usual they have gone back after eating hundred shoes and hundred onions.
